In Greg Gardner's case it's both. This 21 year-old singer/songwriter has a lot to prove, and he has the will and determination to do it.
Greg draws influences from artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Jackson Brown, the Rolling Stones and many others. Greg's father is also in the "business" and several of his songs still receive radio play throughout North America and Europe; music has been flowing through Greg's veins since the day he was born.
His parents bought him his first guitar when he was 8 and by age 11 he was performing at school functions and social events covering songs by Elvis and the Beatles. He started writing his own songs in his early teens and after his high school rock band fell apart.
Greg has developed a loyal fan base in Winnipeg as a genuine singer/songwriter by playing a variety of coffee houses, bars, fundraisers and making several appearances on local radio and television stations. His talent and dedication landed him a record deal with Absurd Machine Records and his debut self-titled album was released on October 12, 2005.
Greg played a number of shows across western Canada over the course of 2005 to promote his CD, including a sold-out showcase at Western Canadian Music Weekend with artists from Nettwerk records and Maximum Music Goup, and will be playing even more in 2006. He continues to wow audiences night after night with his acoustic guitar and his soulful vocals and his debut album is currently being played on dozens of campus radio stations across Canada, and on internet radio all over the world.
For Greg Gardner, it's about the singer and the song, and its only a matter of time until everyone is singing along.
