"Review of Present Moment Days"

Working with a voice that frequently recalls James Taylor, Cagno's extremely sweet instrument hits the mark on top drawer originals as "Saddest Song I'll Ever Sing", "The No-Dependent Song" and a gently humorous ode to New Jersey insurers called "Dropped (Welcome To The System)." Accompanied only by his beautifully played guitar, this brilliant local talent also takes possession of Steve Earle's "Fearless Heart" and wistfully reinvents John Gorka's "Angel Leaving Town".

Bio

Gregg Cagno now makes his home in Winston-Salem, NC. His ease of phrasing and clear, warm baritone communicates the joy, wit, love and laughter in his songs without pretense. His guitar playing is bold yet fluid, filled with resonant open tunings. He's toured extensively and has appeared on festival stages from Kerrville to Falcon Ridge to South Florida to Black Potatoe. Gregg's had the opportunity to play at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as well as open for folk/rock stars James Taylor, Richie Havens, America & Poco. His tune Backroad Driver was featured on NPRs Car Talk and he's a two time ASCAPlus award winner. His 5th CD "Worth the Wait" is on Black Potatoe Records. www.greggcagno.com

Mostly appearing solo, Cagno is sometimes accompanied by Karl Dietel on keys or Carol Sharar on violin. The 3 of them occasionally form the CagnoTrio.

His most recent release is "Worth the Wait" recorded with Producer & Multi-Instrumentalist Jim Heffernan (Joe Diffie, Brad Paisley).

In addtion to performing, Gregg has taught songwriting and guitar workshops for the NJ State Teen Arts Festival and Young Composers festival for the past 10 years.

Gregg's song "In Her Own Eyes" (co-written with Robert Meitus) was recently placed in the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings archives with the FAST FOLK catalogue. The title track of his 1st CD "Backroad Driver" was featured on NPR's 'Car Talk'. His tune "Just the 3 of Us" won 'best mellow' at the 2002 South Florida Folk Festival.

Cagno learned his craft, and perfected his smooth baritone voice, as a teenager playing and volunteering at the legendary Godfrey Daniels stage in Bethlehem, PA. The influence of fellow Godfrey's-alum John Gorka can be seen in Gregg's sharp, descriptive, and witty lyrics. But Gregg Cagno isn't an echo of any one performer, musician, or songwriter. He does what few folks can pull off: translate the depths of his influences into a sound and style distinctly his own.
