Bio
Exciting new country artist Greg Gillett hails from a small Western
Australian wheat farming town 275km North East of Perth called
Bencubbin. Greg's musical inspiration flows on the family farm where he
grew up and he returns there several times a year to write, work the
land and relax with his family. While lying back, listening to the birds
sing or pondering existence under the night stars in the clear, wide WA
sky, the majority of the songs on the album seemed to write themselves.
Living now on the shores of picturesque Lake Macquarie, 150km North of
Sydney, Greg recorded the majority of his exceptional debut album I
Cant Forget in his studio at home.
A multi-talented artist, Greg wrote every song and with the exception
of a few guest artists, played every instrument on the album. Many of
the songs were produced by Greg, however former band mate Matt Fell
(Producer to the likes of Sara Storer, Butterfly 9, Damien Leith, Paul
Greene, Anthony Snape, Wesley Carr, Caitlin Harnett, Karl Broadie and
many others) lends his producing talent to three of the tracks which
were also recorded at Matts Love Htz Studios in Sydney.
Greg has played in a variety of bands over the years and has shared the
stage alongside such artists as Bill Chambers, Kevin Bennett and Danny
Widdecombe. Gregs longest-term role in this arena was a 4 year stint
as drummer and duo-partner to Karl Broadie. Karl co-wrote the song
Top Of The Hill which features on the album and plays harmonica
on another (Capricorn). QUOTE KARL HERE. Gregs work with Karl
involved annual appearances at the Tamworth Country music festival, The
Gimpee Muster, the Port Fairy festival and a tour of the UK. Greg also
played on Karls 2005 album Black Crow Callin.
Gregs latest achievement is to be nominated for the second year
running in the Country and Best Male Vocals categories of ABC Local
Music Awards with his song "Bye Bye".
Greg also performs regularly in Newcastle as front man in the popular local country rock band The McNastys.
