Bio

Nowhere Near Poughkeepsie is the debut solo record released by Greg Lyon on Midriff Records . It was written and recorded almost entireley in his rehearsal space, with some additional recording performed by Ray Jeffrey at Liberty and Union Recording Company. Gathering up any friend that was around that given day to record, he put together an album that is both diverse in style but cohesive in sound. Grabbing influences ranging from 60's pop, to Alt Country, to Indie Rock, Nowhere Near Poughkeepsie can not be pigeonholed to one specific genre. Simple song structures with low-fi production and warm organ tones are spread throughout Nowhere Near Poughkeepsie.

Greg Lyon is a seasoned Boston musician. He is and has been in assorted Boston Indie bands such as Pending Disappointment, The Spanish Armada, Kipper Tin (Sarah Borges), The Beatings, Eldridge Rodriguez, Birdsmakebirds, La Faccia Brutta, and Get Help. In addition he has shared the stage with such acts as Piebald, Walter Schrefeles (Quicksand, Rival Schools), Wheat and McClusky. After writing a back catalog of songs that did not fit any of the bands, he decided to venture off on his own, record and release songs as a solo artist. Nowhere Near Poughkeepsie gave him sole possession of album direction, recording style and contributing parties.

While many artists risk a shaky beginning while venturing on their own, this is not the case here. Lyon’s prolific and accomplished history in the Boston music scene gives Nowhere Near Poughkeepsie an unyielding fortitude both lyrically and musically by intertwining pop songs with dark stories of the past and present. The feeling is that there is something that everyone can relate to both in the music and in the words
