.4 MUSIC FOR NOTHING If you visit Greg Schroeder online ( gregschroeder), you'll hear a few of his pretty folk tunes. And if you like what you hear, see him play them live as he headlines a free show at the Cavern tonight. Also on the bill are Colleyville country singer Jonathan Fox and Dallas electro group My Life On Film. 9 p.m. at 1914 Greenville Ave. 214-828-1914. - The Quick-Dallas, TX

"Music Initiative 2012"

A brilliant storyteller...Greg Schroeder brings a deep baritone voice meaningful lyrics, and well crafted and powerful narratives to the stage... [he is] the epitome of the American songwriter, pouring his heart out openly for the world to see." - Found Magazine

"DC9 Blog - Darryl Smyers"

Elements of Steve Earle and Ryan Adams are easy to hear in the songs of Schroeder as the guy bares his soul on just about every verse. Schroeder's EP Songs for a Bluebird is a nice slice of poignant Americana just waiting to be checked out. - The Dallas Observer

"Pete Freedman"

Houston transplant Greg Schroeder has never wanted for talented backing players. His last release,Songs for a Bluebird, featured supporting performances from members of Hayes Carll's band; his new full-length, Schroeder, features most of Dallas' revered King Bucks, among other talented performers. And it's not hard to see how Schroeder can draw these players in. His country-folk hybrid is complex both lyrically and musically, never content to loiter too long in one place—even if, for the most part, the influences he's mining have long been combed over...Comparing Schroeder to Carll, given his point of origin and chosen aesthetic, would be lazy if it weren't so appropriate. But talent, clearly, is not a problem here, and Schroeder is earning an identity to call his own. - Dallas Observer

"Kelly Dearmore"

Schroeder's tunes are the kinds that can make the simple combo of a voice and a guitar seem grand in their emotional impact. - Dallas Observer

Known for his earthy, Texas-Country/Blues sound, heartfelt storytelling and poetic lyrics, Schroeder is a gem in Americana music. He has played shows from New York to California and many places in between. In over 17 years on the scene, he has had the honor to share the stage with artists like James McMurtry, Joe Ely, Monte Montgomery, Bob Schneider, Gary Louris, Rhett Miller, The Gourds, Shiny Rib, The O's, Sara Hickman, The Trishas, Slobberbone, Sorta and Band of Heathens, to name a few.

Schroeder released his first solo record in 2008, Songs for a Bluebird, which was recorded at Cedar Creek Studio in Austin, TX. In 2011, he released his second solo album the self-titled, Schroeder. Recorded at Junius Recording Co. in Dallas, TX, the album was co-produced by Schroeder and Christopher Carmichael, and included performances from local musicians in Polyphonic Spree among others.

In October 2014, Schroeder self released a live album, LIVE at Hotel Café, recorded in Los Angeles. This album includes previously unrecorded songs and covers, some of which will be recorded in studio for wide release on his new album, scheduled for release in late 2018.

His performances include original music and covers by artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Johnny Cash, Guy Clark and The Jayhawks, which he distinctly makes his own.

His latest endeavor is starring in a feature film by Whiskey Beard Films and directed by Josh Jordan. The title This World Won't Break, shares the title of an original song by Schroeder.
