I grew up in the east and west coasts of the US and Mexico- an early participant in the sixties folk and psychedelic cataclysms. Coming from a musical family, I heard and aspired to play many different kinds of music, Brazilian and Cuban rhythm and lyrics, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Nina Simone, Josh White, Leadbelly, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Allen Ginsburg, Joni Mitchell, Mose Allison, Ruben Blades, Venicius de Moraes, Atahualpa Yupanqui, TS Eliot, Pablo Neruda, Salvador Cardenál, Bobbi Cespedes, and many others. I don't try to conform to a style or tradition so much as find the setting for the feeling and ideas in a song, and craft it accordingly, in English, Spanish and sometimes both. My instrumental style, based in classical and blues, also has years of Latin influence reflected in my self accompaniment and solos.
