Bio
The duo Gretli & Heidi was from the start a part of Variety Vauduvill, a traveling tent show in Sweden in the 1980s - and '90s . The duo made highly acclaimed musical scene numbers in a dream world inspired by Tyrol.
In an environment filled with
cowbells, dirndl, lederhosen and edelweiss, they played at various everyday
objects such as bikes (spokes, bicycle bells) and haberdashery (scissors, knitting
needles and crochet hooks, thimbles, zippers).
2001 had Gretli & Heidi opportunity to realize their idea of music on
glass instruments, and constructed a glass harp of odds recykled wineglasses.
They have since continued to collect tinkling glassware, which is the basis for
the songs they compose. The sounds of the water-filled bowls, dishes and
bottles mixed with the sounds of their voices, accordion, piccolo and
glockenspiel. All music is original compositions and improvisations of Gretli
& Heidi.
Their music seeks to expand the borders of an acoustic, urban world music. They
create their own music tradition, inspired by a European musical heritage that
stretches between the Balkans and the Arctic.
They have given concerts at theaters, concert halls, circuses, variety shows
and jazz clubs. They have performed with the Radio Symphony Orchestra on Swedish
Television and at openings and inaugurations, most recently at the opening
ceremony of the 2014 Theme Program Going Glocal at Swedish Embassy / House of
Sweden in Washington.
In 2010 , they recorded the CD Gretli & Heidi in Atlantis studio at the
record company Ragadang Records.
