Biography

Groundwave is a five piece band from Guelph, Ontario. Their musical background ranges from post-punk, metal, blues and classical, also artist and bands that influenced them include Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Tom Waits, Bauhaus, Dead Moon, The Deadly Snakes, Arcade Fire. The live shows they put on are dark, energetic and theatrical.

They are currently promoting the new full length studio album “Mankind” which is the follow up to their EP. The songs on the album are stories of love and sorrow with ever dark guitar riffs, shadowy yet haunting organ, gloomy grooves and strong deep vocals. The songs are tale-like and have a wide range of subjects, from an imaginary dirge through an apocalyptical love song (earth died screaming - a Tom Waits cover) to an early 20th century bigotry case as a murder ballad. The album was recorded and mixed by Steve Knox of The Kramdens and mastered by Ron Skinner (CBC radio).

Redlike lies

Written By: C. Horvath

…still with my eyes shut,
It was so cold and I thought
Of thunder when I felt
The lust of her hairs’ scent
It was still cold and I thought
It was the chill that I fought

I haven’t been valued and it’s so hard to see
I think I’m ok but there’s no guaranty, 'cause
There was so much fear that when I open my eyes
I smile, and reach, and then realize

I felt her hair, see
It was redder than lies

I looked up then and I found her gone
No revelation it was cold, it was done
Don’t misunderstand it just had to be said
It’s so cold in my bed
It’s just so cold in my bed…

I felt her hair, see
It was redder than lies

Small Town Double Murder

Written By: Z. Hollo

When I found love in you
Deep in your chambers, I cried
Never had I thought you’d be with me
You would be with me no more

My heart and soul yearns for you
I left you far, over the sea
Intensions were good, you’d come to me
The girl I love would come to me

Grim Reaper waits for the loot
Gamblers, robbers deal the truth
Truth of a bigot’s plot
Plot of a bigot fuck

Arthur E. prepares the drop
Skill that brings me no luck
Swift and tight as it fits the trade
Trade that brings me no hope

The morning light shines the bars
My fists will soon turn to dust
I look at the priest in disbelief
Their lies I can’t, can’t admit

Drenched in lies on the throne the judge sits
Deceptions of theirs I cannot fight
I’ll pay the wrong price, Heaven knows
Heaven knows I curse and hate them

Grim Reaper waits for the loot
Gamblers, robbers deal the truth
Truth of a bigot’s plot
Plot of a bigot fuck!

The fear I had, has past and gone
And the flags are not black enough
To show the sorrow I feel
The notion of not touching you

Burn A Way

Written By: Z. Hollo

My soul weighs many sorrows
Many will tie me to the ground
I would eat the dirt, eat her dust
If only, there was a way

The ocean wants to clean me
I would succumb to her waves
Let her currents drone around me
If only, there was a way

Gather the black ink, gather the blood
There was a way
Don’t gather them on a golden plate
Do burn them to ashes

My heart talks to the dark blue sky
To purge it with a lightning bolt
I would taste the coal, feel her heat
If only, there was a way

The forest wants to lend a hand
To cover me with her arms
I would bury myself under her leaves
If only, there was a way

The moon rays her light on me
To ease my way through the night
I would climb up to thank and kiss her
If only, there was a way

Gather the black ink, gather the blood
There was a way
Don’t gather them on a golden plate
Do burn them to ashes
Burn them, burn them
Burn them to ashes
Burn a way
Do find a way
