The Little Steven-endorsed Group Sounds ease up on the heavy rock muscle in favour of stripped-down, snotty rave-ups scrapped from to garage gold of Nuggets. Their universe is a rarefied one, limited to discussions
of gingerbread men, jukeboxes and highschool girls, which, let's face it, ain't a bad place to be.

Izzys members) rock on top with
'60s pop, and their playful live sets
don't skimp on punk flare.

Like its fellow NYC stage gangs Matches FC and the Izzys, Group Sounds digs no-fuss, no-muss songwriting and a no-bullshit presentation. R&B-based pop hooks and a celebration of basic rock & roll rev this short EP up with melody and energy, making up for the no-fi production. Seems to me the Strokes and its self-conscious ilk could learn a thing or two from the likes of Group Sounds.

Ex-Izzy members get together and grab a couple new guys to form Group Sounds with a sound sliced directly from early ‘60s pop radio. Their garage rock sound is far removed from the current “The” band sound dominating that particular scene—you’re not going to hear The Strokes or The White Stripes doing this. The vocal harmonies are matched perfectly with the catchy choruses and verses that are equal parts memorable and surf rock worthy. A good 4-song EP to get things started, now let’s get a full length out.

After leaving The Izzys behind them (a group NME said was infused with the vital NYC punk spirit, that Rolling Stone claimed was for the real rock and rollers out there and that Blender magazine said had enough Blues, sleaze and boogie to make Mick Keith and Iggy proud) Jared Gutstadt and Jesse Korwin hooked up with some old friends, Randy Slavin and Joe Epstein, and set out to blaze new musical trails across New York City and beyond.
Group Sounds was recently named one of the top twenty unsigned acts in the United States.
