South Central's Grown Mo Is "So Serious" [Audio] - July 29, 2006 By : Nima

The rap industry is overcrowded with new artists trying to break through, and our job here at dubcnn is to filter out the dope from the weak and let you hear the most promising talents coming up.

Today, I'd like to familiarize ya'll with South Central rapper Grown Mo, who has been generating a buzz with his current mixtape "So Serious Vol. 1". He's been working closely with Bay Area producer Deep H2OZ, who's beats ya'll heard on some recent Prophet shit I brought ya'll.

I have two preview tracks from the mixtape for ya'll, the first called "Dubs Up", where Mo borrows Mack 10's "Like That" beat, and the second one called "Dre Shit", where he gets together with the Bay Area's Prophet and K-Bristo to wreck Dre's "Ackrite" beat. Check them out below:

He's currently working on "So Serious Vol. 2" with Dow Jones aswell as his label Bonfire Entertainment. He's also into acting, starring next to The Rock in the upcoming Gridiron Gang movie.

Feeling a bit camera shy

Hailing from South Central Los Angeles, Grown Mo isn't your typical 24-year-old rapper/actor; he's also trying to create an entertainment empire.

Grown Mo first started rapping in elementary school, but became serious about his craft during high school where he battled other rappers to be the best MC in his school and then neighborhood. He has worked closely with producers such as Brian "Deep H2OZ" Watters (Mac Mall, Ray Luv, Too Short, Turf Talk, The Team) to create catchy songs with a unique story and sound. Check out his first mixtape So Serious Vol.1, a classic... His next project, So Serious Vol.2, will be released in October 2006.

Grown Mo's introduction to acting came in his high school drama class. He found that acting was the perfect compliment to music. He was discovered by Michael Greene & Associates and soon found himself at different auditions throughout the city. He has landed many commercials (Nike, Reebok, Adidas) and has had many guest starring roles (NYPD Blue, CSI, ER, Cold Case). Recently, he starred with the Rock in Gridiron Gang (Sony/Columbia Pictures) slated to be released in September 15, 2006.

Grown Mo is not just an artist; he is also a business man. He has started his own record label (Bonfire Entertainment) and has begun producing and writing his own films. In 2005, he produced two short films and is attached to two different feature film projects for 2006.

In addition, Grown Mo is determined to create opportunities not only for himself but for other people as well. He has throughout his career pursued programs for his community to use his talents to give others a chance.
