Feeling a bit camera shy

It all started when Grrrl Friend's co-vocalist/bassist, Duffy Wrong Island, was in a hard dirge rock act named Grinding Faith. After three years of D.I.Y. gigging including a national tour with H.R. of the Bad Brains in 2005, that band sputtered out but with Punk rock and melody still pumping in his heart Duffy joined up with singer-songwriter Elyssa Lovelyss, then of Brooklyn riot grrl act Skim Milk, to create a more atmospheric and melodic, yet experimental, version of a punk band. They recruited Jason Briggs, lead guitarist of The Sonitus Revolution and Mike McManus of Vision Through Sound for percussion to form a merry band of noize pop-indie rockin' freaks. They were deemed Grrrl Friend. In June 2006, Grrrl Friend released Period, their debut LP through Duffy's self-financed, and D.I.Y., band-ran imprint, Wrong Island Records.
