"Receiving as an album at times harnesses the boogie stomp of Coloured Balls and The Aztecs and melds it into a record of stoned-out riffs that reawaken the haze of the Sunbury Festival, and this is where Gruntbucket truly shine... cutthroat and captivating"
- Time Off Magazine

"Mikey Madden unleashes Gruntbucket - a traditional three-piece rock band, with the outstanding guitar album Receiving. This is all heart; a loose, unmeasured jam best heard while lying languid in the grass. The result of this heavy, yet slowed-up, sonic adventure is a swaying, reflective, emotional record" - MusicAustraliaGuide

"Like a Neanderthal suburban back pocket, Seven takes no prisoners, the crescendo building from lumbering blues rock to free and easy Jimmy Page guitar deity meanderings... On B People, Gruntbucket invoke the dirty punk spirit of Green River and The Melvins, She's A Drag is the gut-wrenching rocker from central casting, it's sludgy existence founded on a slick riff as invigorating as the day is long... This is rock n' roll as it should be made and played, down, dirty and dangerous." - Beat Magazine

About three years ago, guitarist/vocalist Mikey Madden of Melbourne rock outfit THE VANDAS recruited bassist Tim McCormack and drummer Dave Watkins to form a new band. Aiming to step out of their respective comfort zones, Gruntbucket was a chance for the three guys to stretch a bit further, shake it out and hit a bit harder.

Their debut album ‘Receiving’, recorded in the Victorian countryside amidst grapevines, dogs and ambling jam sessions, now sees a release on the brilliant “Torn & Frayed” label. The result is nine scorching tracks that run the gamut of human emotion and when playing live, every performance is as exhilarating as it is spontaneous.
