Biography

Latin Heat Comes to the Mid-West!

A new band has exploded onto the jazz scene! Grupo Ayé will perform their super-hot Salsa & Latin Jazz on August 3 as part of the popular concert series, Jazz at the Zoo. You'll want to bring your dancing shoes!

The band's dynamic premier performance was in April at the University of Michigan Latino Cultural Show at Power Center Auditorium, with over 900 tickets pre-sold. Other recent venues are Music from the Grand Rapids Art Museum, The Hop Cat pub brewery, and various private parties.

Grupo Ayé is the brainchild of Robert Mulligan, who spent three years seeking the just-right combination of musicians to produce the sound that is Ayé.

Yes, the band is new, but it's nine members are all seasoned performers. Their combined jazz and latin music experience is enormous and includes performances with such noted artists as Mike Metheny, Tito Puente, Wynton Marsalis, Celia Cruz, Aretha Franklin, Harry Chapin, Jr., Englebert Humperdink and Paquito Rivera.

Ayé’s musicians:
Keaton Akins, trumpet; Mike Sailors, Trumpet: Oscar Gonzalez, lead vocalist; Matt Heredia, bass; Tom Lockwood, sax and flute; Rob Mulligan, congas and vocals; Carl Poposky, trombone; James Rodriguez, timbales: Carlos Cruz, Bongo and vocals; Steve Talaga, piano.
