Grupo Bons Tempos

“Grupo Bons Tempos” is a band that manages to keep one of the most important Brazilian cultural aspects alive: the traditional samba, in a very similar way it used to be played fifty years ago.
The instruments that “Bons Tempos” uses to perform samba (cavaquinho, Alfeu Julio / 7 strings acoustic guitar, Newton Gmurczyk / timba, Elder Muzetti / pandeiro, Chico de pandeiro Perissinot and percussions/ Caco Picolli), plus a traditional way of singing the songs, bring one’s the experience to listen to a currently real samba.
The band started when five guys ran into each other at the engineering school in the early 80’s.
Their shared love for samba joined them, and since then, the group has been developing a serious research work, which digs deep inside the traditional samba repertoire. And so, the songs performed by Bons Tempos at their shows come from this work. Songs by Cartola, Noel Rosa, Nelson Cavaquinho, Paulinho da Viola and Ary Barroso (among others) are revived and brought to one’s ears in a very vibrant and powerful way. As long as Grupo Bons Tempos keeps this work going on, the real samba’s soul will not die.

The brazilian tour “Ary, o Brasileiro” ended in 2005. (ou “In 2005, the brazilian tour “Ary, o Brasileiro” has come to an end”.) Performed in more than 45 cities and watched by over 30 thousand people, the show’s concept approached Ary Barroso’s life and his songs. It was also an homage to Ary’s 100º birth year. Ary Barroso is one of the most important brazilian composers and his song “Aquarela do Brasil” still goes on as one of the most performed songs all over the world. The entire tourneé was sponsored by Petrobras, the brazilian oil company. On this work Grupo Bons Tempos got a special guests band, with 6 of the best brazilian musicians.
After that, in the same year, the band recorded live the “Ary, o Brasileiro” show, available in CD and DVD. At the moment the band is preparing a new CD that will contain unedited sambas, while performs shows to divulges the last album.
