Bio
Three-part vocal harmonies, old school rock guitar, tight rhythms, and top-shelf songwriting. The Lawrence, Kansas quartet, Gryphyn, crafts original music inspired by old and new sounds, from influences as diverse as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, No Doubt, Weezer, and Incubus. The result is infectious, original rock and roll with bluesy soul and modern energy.
Gryphyn's success is due in large measure to the songwriting abilities of Jared Gabel, who not only composes most of the band's music, but also sings and plays guitar and keyboards. Jared's sister, Tracy Gabel, brings "the voice" and the sultry stage presence. Joe Clausing plays bass guitar, sings, and writes the occasional song. He penned the popular track, "Perspective." Zach White, who has been known to listen to delta blues and metal in the same sitting, keeps it all together on drums and percussion.
Since forming in 2002, Gryphyn has earned a reputation as a top regional band, playing venues throughout the Midwest. Their debut CD, the independent release "Nothing So Far," dropped in 2005 and features the singles "Sweet Little Chill" and "Body Cover."
