Bio

Guitarras Tango was formed in February 2005. The initiator of this ensemble, Kay Sleking, prefers to perform tango ‘unpolished', which lead to the choice of this traditional setting.

The combination of guitar, guitarrón and singing has always been important within the history of tango.

All musicians of Guitarras Tango are specialized in this genre and they play this music from the heart. The music performed in this special setting takes you at its first sound to a Buenos Aires tango café.
Guitarras Tango performs all over Europe in concert halls and milongas (dance halls). The arrangements are originals for this group by Kay Sleking and Elliot Muusses.

Biographies:
Kay Sleking (guitar & arrangements), performs as a soloist and with various ensembles in Europe, Argentina, USA and Canada. He recorded a solo disk, a duo disk with bandoneón player Victor Hugo Villena and played guitarrón on a CD of guitarist Coco Nelegatti. Sleking teaches at the Tango Department of the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts).

Gerard Splint (guitar) studied classical guitar at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and took lessons with Antonio Ruiz-Pipo, Manuel Barrueco and Philadelphia’s Pat Martino. He plays guitar in tango quintet Zarate. With this quintet he plays all over Europe. He also performed in a theatershow of Frank Groothof.

Elliot Muusses (guitarrón & arrangements) studied at the Tango Department of the Rotterdam Conservatory. He now studies jazz guitar at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He takes lessons with tango pianist/composer/arranger Gustavo Beytelmann. He performs with his tango quintet Arrastre and he was winner of 2nd Edition of Tango Music Contest in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, last April 10th 2009.

Maria José Ortiz (vocals) originally comes from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
