GURG is a four-piece instrumental group combining funk with atmospheric grooves and smooth jazz with electronics. The group started in July 2010 and quickly progressed to form a powerful live experience that has found a home in the bustling local Chicago Jam scene.

Biography

With influences ranging from STS9 and The New Deal to Bill Withers and Bob Marley to Between The Buried And Me and Behemoth, it's no surprise that GURG has a sound all their own.

Greg Zurawicz (Keys/Synth) and Zack Wolick (Drums/Percussion) have a history of playing in bands togther, and when the time came to do something fresh, they started collaborating. Soon they added Guitarist Sean McCauley, and Saxophone player Carl Skeens to the mix and things started to take shape.

The result is GURG. A band that is hard to put a label on, but dances on the aggressive edge of Jamtronica, Jazz, Funk, and Reggae. With their energetic, genre-bending, dance-friendly live show, GURG has shared bills with everything from Blues bands, to Dubstep DJs, and nearly everything in between. GURG is at home at a late-night dance-party or rave, and brings an element of diversity and freshness to the booming Chicago music scene.
