Biography

At 22 years old, G. Yamazawa is widely considered one of the top young spoken word artists in the country. Born in Durham, NC and raised in a Buddhist household, G is a Kundiman Fellow, National Poetry Slam Finalist, two-time Southern Fried Champion, two-time Individual World Poetry Slam Finalist, and ranked 2nd at the Ontario International Poetry Slam. He has featured at venues and universities across the nation including the Sundance Film Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival, and the historic Nuyorican Poets’ Café. G most recently won Kollaboration DC and received the Audience Choice Award at Kollaboration Star, the nation’s largest Asian American performance showcase and competition. He currently works as a teaching artist, elementary aftercare teacher, Bus Boys and Poets host, and coach of the Georgetown slam team in Washington, DC.
