Gyazette

Gyazette

BandWorldRock

Gyazette's sound is influenced by Trinidad and Tobago's David Rudder, Andre Tanker, Calypso legend 'The Mighty Sparrow', Nirvana, James Brown, Bob Marley, and Lenny Kravitz. We love to explore all styles of music but we insist on keeping Gyazette's funky calypso/kaiso stamp present throughout.

Biography

Trinidadian KAISO band Gyazette made their public debut in September 2007. Since then the band has been making waves with its poignant lyrics and uniquely smooth blend of Trinidad and Tobago’s folk music, rock, reggae, funk and eastern. It has been described as a cross between calypso’s ‘Shadow’ and grunge’s ‘Nirvana’.

Gyazette’s ultimate musical goal is to aid in humanity’s progress by stimulating the mind while moving the listener with extremely funky and danceable music. It’s members come from central, east and western Trinidad and each contribute their own musical flavours to this authentic TRINBAGONIAN, musical calalloo.

CAPTAIN

All hands on deck!

I say
Who is de captain of this ship? X 4

WHO?
I say
When they try
When they try to hold you
And whenever they tryin to mold you x 2
Tell them that you is de one
You could make your own decision ah tell yuh
Tell them that you is de one
And you know how to make the right decisions
For yourself

Who is de captain of this ship? X 4

I say
When they try to take ‘way
Everything you got
You make a fifty-fifty deal
They want more than half x 2
Tell them that you is de one
You could make your own decision ah tell yuh
Tell them that you is de one
And you know how to make the right decisions
For yourself

Who is de captain of this ship? X 4

People always try to take control and tie my hands
But they don’t understand I got my own plan
At all
So when they try to hold me
And when they try to mold me
What do we tell them we say

Off with you this ship ain’t for you
Off with you this ship is not for you x 4

BREAD

Month end ain’t comin soon
Is still two weeks away
And I ain’t got no more money
So I wukkin meh car like a taxi
Jus to make de grade
Dis eh go be no smooth operation
If I wanna keep my occupation
I need the money to get gas to go to work
For the past five days
I been livin off instant soup and water
And I ain’t takin no crap from nobody
I got things to do

I got a kitchen knife right here by my side
In case a passenger get testy
Cause I know they mad enough to mess with me
But bring it on man
I got no food
And man it’s hurting my head
And I really want x 3
To buy some bread

I say I really want to buy some bread
That’s what I said
I really want to buy some bread
That’s what I said

So I pick up a passenger
A skinny, young man with a gruff brother
He hop in the front seat next to me
While he partner hop in behind he
He say “driver we goin to town man”
I say “aye, de fare is only five dollars brother”
Then he look at he partner
And he partner look at he
All of a sudden he say
Driver this is a stick-up
Pull de car aside and get your hands up
And he pointing a gun straight at meh chest
So I thinking to myself
How I going to get out of the situation
So ah pull a sudden brakes
And the dashboard meet he face

Why you messing with my bread?
That’s what I said
Why you messing with my bread?
That’s what I said

Now de man unconscious
So I dig in he pocket
And I pull out a twenty dollar bill
Open the door and I kick him out
With he partner too
Meh belly start to grumble
So I drive to the nearest parlour
And eyeing my sweet twenty dollar prize
Walk straight up to the shopkeeper
And then I slam down the twenty dollars and say
I want some bread meh lord
De man gone in de back just to get it for me
Just to get it
Just to get it
And out by the counter I start to cry like a little baby
A old woman standing there ask me
Young man what wrong?

I say tantie
I got no food and it’s hurting my head man
Tantie
De reason why I crying is at last I could afford bread
That’s what I said
At last I could afford bread tantie
And it feels so good

AT LAST I COULD AFFORD BREAD x 4

MY PRETTY LADY

I woke up today
Open my window and the sky was gray
But as soon as meh baby open she lovely eye
What's this i see but the brightest sun up in the sky

OOOOOOHHHH x 2

I met her at a lime
And everyone was having a real good time
Someone was sayin something to me
And I say
Don't bother me
I busy tryin to introduce myself to this lady

OOOOOOHHHH x 2

So they passing around the drinks
They ask me what I want
I ask them: What do you think?
One cold beer for me please
And something soft for my lady friend

OOOOOOHHHH x 4

Yeah me and my lady
Yeah me and my baby

Well since that night we came back to my home
My pretty lady's heart never went back out to roam
So is I, myself and me
And my beautiful lady

OOOOOOHHHH x 2

Yeah me and my lady
Yeah me and my baby

DANCE WE DO

Shuffle and drop x 4
Stop
And if you fall down pick yourself up
Because jumbie haunting yuh
Dis is the dance that we does do when we got trouble
So shake yuh hand and body
And just keep on shufflin
Shake to the east, shake to the west
Shake it to the one that you know you love the best
Ah tell yuh

Dis is the dance we do
From de night into mornin
And it can only done
When we see the sun x 2

I heard you were the one with the most
Trouble overtake and you abandon your post
Well that’s OK I can’t boast
Because I’ve been there before
Take my advice
Stick out yuh hand
I say to shake it to the north coast and the southland
Shake it to the east, shake it to the west
Shake it to the one that you know you love the best
Ah tell yuh

Dis is the dance we do
From de night into mornin
And it can only done
When we see the sun x 2

Meh old grandmother said
While she was sitting on she sick bed
Bobbin she head
She said
You got to dance away the fears and the dreads
When jumbie hauntin yuh
When yuh in trouble
Do de dance
In de heat of a struggle
Do de dance
Smile times double
Do de dance
Jumbie hauntin yuh

Dis is the dance we do
From de night into mornin
And it can only done
When we see the sun x 2

HIGHWAY TO HELL

Written By: Nickolai Salcedo

HIGHWAY TO HELL

Some people laugh and point their fingers
At others walking along the road
Sayin
You people need
To get it together
They mean well but oh they miss the point
We got to look out for one another
But they only look out for themselves
They can’t see that’s the surest way to end up

On the highway to hell x 4

I don’t see the need to point no fingers
The guilty ones know who they are
Besides the finger will be pointing at me
Oh my even I have missed the point
See now how my world is filled with hatred
See now how my world sees only race
See now how my world is filled with prejudice
See now how my world hides to save face
Oh why can’t we all live together?
Why can’t we love one another?
Oh what a beautiful world this could be
But we keep choosing mental poverty

On this highway to hell x 4
