Sunday's edition of Songshine will feature the exciting young band Gyazette. Songshine producer Gillian Moor says: "Gyazette has really made their presence felt since they stepped onto the local music scene last year. They've been playing every open mic stage they can get their hands on."
Their style is a hybrid of kaiso, rock and funk. Lead singer and guitarist for the band Nickolai Salcedo, injects his performances with a passion and intensity that makes listeners take note of their original style.
The band has traeted Songshine audiences to samples of their music before, but this time around they will be the featured act and perform a full set.
"I really think it's important to use this forum, not just for well known acts to give intimate shows, but so young performers who show potential can shine the spotlight on their work," Moor says.

Over the past few years, Gyazette has made a name for itself as one of T&T's leading emerging bands.
Led by Singer, songwriter and guitarist Nickolai Salcedo has made a habit of thrilling audiences across T&T with his animated and intense performances. The band has performed many times at popular stages like One Mic in San Fernando, The Corner Bar in Woodbrook, Euphoria Lounge, Nex Door Pub, and at the UN concert for Human Rights in Chaguaramas last year.
Their songs reflect a mix of influences, including kaiso, funk, reggae and rock music. Their original sound has a retro quality, while pointing in a direction that is unequivocally forward-facing.
Tomorrow night, the band will be featured at the October edition of Songshine at Trevor's Edge. The open-mic series also provides a space to showcase the talent of singers, musicians and poets, who are invited to come along and share their work in a supportive environment.
Songshine will take place at Trevor's Edge, 1 St John Road, St Augustine, from 7:30 pm. Admission is $30 and open mic performers must register by 8:30pm. - Trinidad Guardian
