Gypsies On The Autobahn

Together almost 5 years now Gypsies On The Autobahn are have fast become one of the most talked about young newcomers to the Irish music scene. The four lads from Cabra who make up GOTA have been friends since primary school with two of the members being brothers. They’ve been playing all the biggest venues in Dublin for the past 5 years but this year has been one of notable importance. 2010 marked a year when they have seen demand for their four track demo explode! This demo has a strict “Ask And You Shall Receive Policy”, which means they encourage fans to post there email to their Facebook page and then they get sent a link for free. Their fan base continues to grow at an impressive rate with over 2,000 Facebook fans already.

Their unique sound has seen them being noted as one of the young acts expected to have a lot of success in 2011. They boast amazing high-energy live performances that have a balance between a fantastic alternative sound and beautiful 4 piece harmonies. Lead singer James Smith has a beautiful and very unique voice that leaves a lasting impression on those in attendance at shows. 2010 was an exciting year for GOTA, getting to play The Gathering and Trinity Ball being two of their most memorable occasions. Last year saw them share the stage with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Mystery Jets, The Coronas, Darwin Deez and Delorentos.

During the latter months of 2010 the band turned down many offers for gigs and festivals, as they weren’t yet satisfied they could offer audiences the show they knew they could if they took some time away from the gigging scene. They spent those months of 2010 locked away in a rehearsal room writing a whole host of new songs as well as fine-tuning their live set. More recently they have been hard at work ensuring they start 2011 with a bang, which they did, selling out and headlining the New Year’s Eve Ball at Captains Live Blanchardstown, and then supporting Republic of Loose in the Button Factory. The goal for 2011 is simple, the band says their goal is to set themselves a high standard and stick to it. They aim to spend Summer 2011 playing as many of the Irish festivals as possible and continue to prove why they are definitely one to watch in 2011.
