"Album Review"

A bit like Dido as the girl next door. Somebody you probably wanna have on your side. Eerie tunes and festival kind of Joni Mitchel meets Jewel tuneful songs. Gypsy seems like a lighthearted gal to begin with with some renown players in LA, this is a quiet solo effort that will most likely give pace to better things for this Angelina Fairy Princess as she self denominates on her website... - Panartist in London

I really like the music. It really reminds me of Jewel yet with more soul and depth. Refreshing, upbeat: breathless energy, the unbelievable talent of a soulful beauty.

Fantastic vocals & great music!
Reviewer: Nick Matthews
I just love this album, a fabulous blend of rock ‘n’ roll and folk music—Gypsy’s vocals are so soft and feminine which work perfectly with the great instrumentation. You must check out the great bass line in: Night is my Lover...I bought this CD while on vacation in the USA...this album rocks and should be released in England ASAP!!!

The best female Pop Vocals since Madonna.
Reviewer: KENNEY GYPSY
The best female Pop Vocals since Madonna. I'm glad I found this piece of Art, very nice production, a turn on voice...definitely a wonderful spirit. Keep the good work.

Beautiful voice, exceptional songwriting, great instrumentation, and overall awesome production.
Reviewer: Rich
This album takes the listener into a world of love, loss, and inspiration. It's folky poppy electronic and rock n' roll all in one. The lyrical content is just as real and emotional as any JOHN LENNON song. But the vocals resonate deeply like MADONNA, yet wrap around you with sweet warmth and kindness like JEWEL.

Wow, sensational first CD!

I've tasted honey...Gypsy's music is honey for the soul!
Reviewer: Kelly Sullivan Walden
I get chills listening to "Heart of a Traveling Wind"! Gypsy's music is like blending the best of Dido, Wilson Phillips, and Madonna. The depth of the lyrics, the hookiness of the arrangements, and the sweetness of Gypsy's vocals are a perfect bitter sweet blend that reflect the triumph of the human spirit!

Don't let the acoustic guitar, blue jeans and train tracks fool you — this isn't exactly a folk record, nor is it a batch of tunes from a woman with ramblin' and rollin' on her mind. Rather it's more or less a batch of love songs that run the gamut from electronics-laden "Live to Tell"-era Madonna to mellow, acoustic affairs that find our protagonist sounding like a sweet and comfortable version of Maria McKee (Lone Justice) or Jewel without the stream-of-hipness lyrics. For the most part, Heart of a Traveling Wind remains largely cohesive despite some stylistic differences. The best material comes, though, when Gypsy plays it close to the heart, meaning the acoustic material, illustrating the strength of her voice, which is its purity. That strength comes to the fore on material such as "Yours" (arguably the best piece on this nine-song collection) and "Breathless." And while most singers would be wise to steer clear of Van Morrison covers (they don't call him "Van the Man" for nuthin'), Gypsy's take on "Into the Mystic" proves pleasant enough.
On the whole, Heart of a Traveling Wind is a great way to pass the time. - Jedd Beaudoin

"CoffeeHouseTour.com 8/05 Review"

Gypsy – “Heart of a Traveling Wind” – Music is no stranger to a fairy princess like singer, songwriter and published poet, Gypsy. A songwriter since the tender age of five, Gypsy grew up from a musical family with a country crooning mother and an uncle who wrote music that was later recorded by the Grateful Dead. Gypsy, who is now performing solo after a couple of group performances, has recently released her debut album, “Heart of a Traveling Wind”. A diverse, satisfying blend of her picturesque poetic songs with stunningly gorgeous voice tops off this dynamic showcase of poems transformed into music. Sure to receive a nod of approval from legendary great Van Morrison for her cover of “Into the Mystic”, Gypsy covers the classic song with a voice of an angel, she nails it so perfectly, no other female musician could quite top it like she did. Expect this kind of result from the rest of the CD. It’s a mentally stirring sandstorm of remarkable poetry mixed in with striking songwriting, sure to evoke strong feelings of wanderlust, love and hope. Stamped this CD with an “A +” rating, “Heart of a Traveling Wind” is pure, 100% amazing by a truly, gifted artist. - Heather Corcoran - Assistant Editor

"Music Connection Magazine"

Touching & well-written songs performed with childlike charm.

Material: Gypsy is modern folk-rock in the same vein as acts like Jewel and Loreena McKennitt. "Yours" is an acoustic love song with a country feel. "Into the Mystic" is a Van Morriston cover that gives Olivia's excellent backup vocals a chance to shine. The best song Gypsy offers comes last. On the aptly titled "Simple Country Song," the ensemble took their skills to another level playing it.

Musicianship: Starting with a soft rock ballad, the band displays fine form. Bass, drum and guitar are all competent.

Performance: Their heart and intent were more than present.

Summary: Gypsy has a certain childlike charm that is simply alluring. She is a pleasure to listen to. Her songs are touching and well written

Bio

Singer-songwriter, Gypsy with her band "The Merry Mystics" create a unique sound of folk, pop and rock stemming from Gypsy's rich musical upbringing of Americana roots music. Gypsy's songs channel her deep life experiences through poetic lyrics and lilting, beautiful vocals. Growing up in a musical family, Gypsy wrote her first song at the age of five after hearing many of Mom and Dad's living room "jam sessions" with the likes of Tag Lambert (lead guitarist for Bob Wills), and others. Gypsy was inspired to pursue the life of a musical artist after hearing her Mom's recordings on the local country stations in Arizona. Also, Gypsy's uncle Don Rollins wrote the smash hit, "The Race Is On" recorded by George Jones, Ricky Nelson and The Grateful Dead. Writing is in her blood and deep in her heart.

After attending ASU majoring in theatre & music, Gypsy was accepted into The National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York. She then moved to Greenwich Village and began singing at local clubs and open mics, then moved to L.A. to pursue a career in music and film. She continued to write and record songs, and eventually joined the pop trio, Angels of Ecstasy with Kelly Sullivan and Astrid Plane (formerly of Animotion). She and Kelly went on to form Zuzu's Petalz, performing their music in LA clubs. Shortly thereafter, Gypsy went solo.

Gypsy is currently in the studio recording her 3rd album entitled "Mystikal Kiss". Both her 1st and 2nd albums, "Heart of a Traveling Wind" and Theres Still Hope (with over 20,000 downloads on itunes), are flavored with the guest performances of many talented musicians, including Ed Tree (Spencer Davis), Martyn LeNoble (Jane's Addiction), Tony Sales (David Bowie), Rick Shlosser (Van Morrison) and David Palmer (Rod Stewart), and this latest album is sure to as well! Gypsys influences include Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Loreena McKennett, Jewel, Marley, Dido and others.
