Bio
Gypsy Blood first began in 2002 when Gary Olsen (keyboards, guitar, vocals, songwriter) called Mike Tester (vocals, guitar, songwriter) to perform as an opening act for a few shows in Nashville. Even though they had not seen each other in 17 years, they picked up right where they had left off.
They formed a three-piece power folk band with the help of Mike's wife, Janet Tester (vocals, bass, lyrics).
Later, Gypsy Blood decided to break from their power folk style and start playing rock. They added Mike and Janet's son, Derek Tester (drums) to the roster to fill out their new sound. Now their style ranges from what they call progressive garage, alternative rock, and hard rock. Some songs may even have a little country flavor to them. They play in clubs all over the Detroit area and the fans keep asking for more!
Gypsy describes their style as a mixture of styles and influences with real songs and real playing. With influences ranging from John Lee Hooker to the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd, you can expect to hear great things from Gypsy Blood in the future!
