Bio

Gypsy Moon is the culmination of many years of exploration into the world of guitar music. Ray and Linda Sriro both began playing at the age of 14. Linda drifted smoothly though folk and classical styles while Ray amazed listeners with his high-speed rock solos. When they met they began to explore jazz and swing standards. Linda drifted away from the guitar for a while and became an experienced vocalist in everything from blues to jazz to musical theater. The couple longed to play together again but couldn’t find the right vehicle for their diverse styles until they discovered Gypsy Jazz!
Forged by the work of Django Reinhardt – arguably the finest jazz guitarist of all time – Manouche, or Gypsy swing is a fascinating blend of Gypsy virtuosity and American jazz. In 1930s France, this new ‘swing’ music had a profound impact on the local musical scene and although the music’s creator died in 1953, his music remains highly influential to this day. Django Reinhardt created a tradition, which has been perpetuated and developed by many exceptional contemporary musicians. His style of guitar is not well known here in the states, but, is beginning to gain popularity among the classical and jazz musicians, as there are similarities in both styles.
Ray and Linda fell in love with the music and last Jan. 2004, played the 1st Annual Django Reinhardt Festival at Arts Fifth Ave in Ft. Worth. This year they will again open for Slim Richey‘s “Yo Gadjo at the 2nd Annual Django Reinhardt Festival at Arts Fifth Ave in Ft. Worth on Jan 21st, 2005.
Full of rhythm and romance, listeners are assured an evening of exciting guitar work and soothing vocals.
