"Unsung: Hailey Woodruff"

Hailey Woodruff is a young, budding artist from Southern California that does it all. She’s a singer/songwriter, a guitarist, and arranges all of her own music.

In a male dominated world, it’s hard to find a woman that records and arranges all of her own music. You’ll find them as lead singers, but not one woman bands like Hailey. Hailey is one of a kind and you can hear it in the music.

Inspired by bands like Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, and Meshuggah, Hailey has found a way to balance her strong vocals with her guitar work and turn it into something extremely impressive.

Hailey released her debut self-titled album last year. Hailey could be the best kept secret in hard rock right now. I think that if Hailey hooks up with the right producer, you could see her with the type of success that Orianthi had when she put out her first stateside album. Hailey is an artist to watch for the future. She’s just getting started. - The Urban Alternative

"Hailey Woodruff - Artist of the Week"

Hailey Woodruff makes all her own music and does it very well. Her most recent self titled release LP showcases her high level of talents perfectly. This girl knows how to rock and will appeal to a broad range of listeners for many different reasons.

Our own Staff Writer Brian McKinnon had this to say about Hailey's album "Hailey Woodruff’s self-titled album is a marvel. Such skill is on display that it is hard to believe at times that is just one person creating this fantastic music." I could not agree more!

This is one hard working lady with pure talent that is a rarity these days. When you have real talent technology enhancements are an add on not a necessity to cover up inadequacies. Hailey lays her cards on the table and it's a royal flush! - Muzik Reviews

"Hailey Woodruff - Drive and Talent to Go It Alone"

...this week I have got the beautiful and talented Hailey Woodruff with us. I became a fan of Hailey after diving into her self titled LP and reading she lived in Boston for 5 years. With songs like “Silenced” and “Only One” I could not believe she does it all herself. Join us this week as we talk about going it solo, radiation from Japan, upcoming music videos, and much more!

"Hailey Woodruff LP - 4/5 Stars"

California guitarist, vocalist, and composer Hailey Woodruff really shows plenty of promise here on her self-titled debut, writing all the songs, playing all the instruments (save for some cello on one track) and providing all the vocals. And, when you can execute it all as expertly as she has here, why the hell not? Hailey lists influences like Mudvayne, Tool, Soilwork, Nine Inch Nails, Periphery, Red, and Meshuggah, but don't let that throw you off, as this is a pretty fresh sounding release that's not at all derivative of those acts.

First of all, she's got a damn good voice, one that's not too far removed from Amy Lee of Evanescene or ex-The Gathering vocalist Anneke Van Giersbergen, except with more 'balls' for lack of a better term. She shows her mettle on the two heavy rocking opening cuts "Solace in a Nightmare" and "Cognizance", both featuring crunchy guitar riffs, soaring vocals, and catchy melodies. And yes, the girl can shred, so look for some fabulous lead guitar work on these two rippers as well. "Only One" has some prog-rock tendencies, thanks to intricate guitar & bass passages, and "Confession" also pushes the prog boundaries with alluring arrangements and Woodruff's tender vocal harmonies. To show she can also deliver a tender ballad, look no further than "Black & Red" and "Floor of Deepest Walls", but it's apparent Hailey likes to rock, which she certainly does on the crushing "Delinquent", easily the heaviest song on the album. The ability to create varied, flowing arrangements can be heard on the progressive metal attack of "Virus", a direction I'd love to see her go more towards in the future.

Great vocals, great guitar work, and intelligent, well crafted songs...it's a winning formula all around. Whether Hailey Woodruff decides to go in the direction of a powerful symphonic metal diva (that voice can certainly carry her if she wanted to), or a guitar slinging progressive metal savior, she's got the chops to do it all. I'd love to see her fronting a full band, singing, playing lead guitar, and writing all the tunes, regardless of what style she eventually commits to. Certainly someone to keep your eyes on, as I think we will be hearing much more from her in the very near future. - Sea of Tranquility

"Hailey Woodruff LP - 5/5 Stars"

Hailey Woodruff is the definition of a talented musician. Based out of Southern California, she is influenced by a wide range of bands including Pantera, Soilwork, and Tool as well as music from the jazz and classical genres. Her diverse influences can surely be heard as each song has something different to offer. Notably, she does it all on her self-titled album, Hailey Woodruff LP. She backs her stunning voice with her equally impressive skill on the guitar, bass, piano, and drums. I do not know of many one man or woman bands, but Hailey Woodruff has to be hard to top given what is displayed throughout these nine songs.

The talent of Hailey Woodruff is no more on display than it is on the opener. “Solace in a Nightmare” comes out roaring with some blood chilling vocals and roaring guitars, making for one fantastic song. It is the type of first taste that leaves one immediately wanting and craving more. Her voice goes deep under the skin and into the bones, where it stays. Following up the stellar opening, “Cognizance” and “Only One” are two different flavors of dark, with the former having a more melodic edge to it and the latter getting dirtier and gritty, not to mention the mesmerizing guitar action that helps to create a sense of a foreboding atmosphere. The moving “Black & Red” is another one with standout vocals. The music is toned down to give the song an ominous feel to it. Also, the atmosphere is very dreamlike. Continuing from the previous song, “Confession” jolts one back to full attention with some sweet guitar action. The repetition makes it almost hypnotic.

The guitar on “Silenced” steals the show. “Delinquent” is a hard, heavy song that is unrelenting. The drums are crushing and give off an air of brutality. I can most certainly hear the metal influences on this one. I think it is the most memorable song on an album full of them. “Virus” continues the dark and heavy trend. With a touch of sadness behind it, “Floor of Deepest Walls” has a gothic vibe to it. It is dark, yet alluring. The music is not as hard and overbearing as the previous songs. Her vocals are at the front as the music lingers in the background, supporting her beautiful voice.

Hailey Woodruff’s self-titled album is a marvel. Such skill is on display that it is hard to believe at times that is just one person creating this fantastic music. This is easily one of my top albums of 2013 so far, and without question. Every song reveals something new and peels back a layer of her talent. Do not let this one pass by you, because it is truly something to behold. More than memorable, once it is heard, it will be hard to forget the name of Hailey Woodruff. - Muzik Reviews
