"Wat It Do – Jem The Haitian (Official Music Video)"

These are some of the sicker visuals I’ve seen to a song in a while. The lips, the white barrier, and the random items that are shown create a beautiful chaotic video that accompanies a solid slap. Check it out for yourself and download the song below. - Filthy Slaps

"JEM THE HAITIAN- WAT IT DO"

With the digital release of the critically acclaimed benefit LP, I Am Haiti (March 2010) and the
success of the lead single, “EarthQuakes” (peaked at #1 on college radio rap charts nationwide),
recording artist Jem The Haitian has been named the Prince of Haiti. Based in Boston, he is
quickly becoming a powerful force in east coast urban music. Jem’s energetic flow, his ability
to portray vivid imagery through catchy rhyme schemes and witty punch lines, and his confident
personality continues to draw his growing fan base closer to him.

With his highly anticipated release “Wat It Do”, the promising Haitian artist is set to make a
permanent mark in mainstream Hip Hop. Recently, Jem released the official video for the new
single which is quickly spreading through the Hip Hop blogs and vlogs ,etc. As the single’s
title suggests, “Wat It Do” is mainly about presenting Jem The Haitian to his new fans and
reassuring his talent to the loyal ones. “Wat It Do to me symbolizes my introduction to the folks
that are not that familiar with me while giving my loyal fans something to be excited about,”
says Jem. “It’s a jam that speaks to the ladies, the fellas, and the kids, all at the same time.”

Born Stephane Alce in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Jem The Haitian discovered rap at age 9 when
he first heard The Fugees’ Ready or Not and Killing Me Softly. He immediately fell in love
with Hip Hop and started to learn how to count bars and putting stanzas and rhyme schemes
together. When he moved to America a year later, Jem dived deeper into Hip Hop all the way
through high school where a friend introduced him to the music of Nas. “Nas showed me that I
can really say what I want, when I want.” Jem explains. “I began writing about my struggle as
a young Haitian immigrant trying to make it in America. I started writing full songs in hopes of
making an impact in the world of urban music. It wasn’t just a hobby anymore. Making music
became my passion.”

Jem studied the industry and honed his skills for years with help from his former manager,
Wayne Horton of Mr Wizard Records. After graduating from the New England Institute of Art
in 2007, he decided to release a few test singles. His production work for other rising artists in
Boston solidified him as the go-to producer in his city. In 2009, Jem teamed up with the world
famous Statik Selektah to release his debut mixtape, Here I Am. The tape was widely received
and brought Jem one step closer to the top.

After the release of I Am Haiti, Jem The Haitian toured the east coast. He received an
opportunity to open up for Shady Record’s very own, Slaughterhouse. While touring, the
young artist managed to capture the attention of HGTV. The popular television channel made
a commercial about his tweets which aired during Property Virgins(airs on Lifestyle & Travel
Channels). Followed was a call from XXL Magazine to provide his thoughts on Wyclef Jean’s
ballot for the president of Haiti (October 2010 issue).

Jem The Haitian’s “Wat It Do” raises the creative bar to refreshing new heights and is poised
to take him to even greater levels of success. Releasing under Island Def Jam Digital, the single
melds catchy rhymes with hilarious punch lines over a solid slap produced by the man himself.
Jem states, “I thank God every day for giving me these opportunities. I feel that with the right
home, right push, it’ll be a done deal.” - TALK OF THE STREETS
