Bio

Bluegrass music, unleashed on the world by Bill Monroe in the 1940’s, was born of rural tradition yet forcefully delivers songs of woe, love, more woe and train wrecks that speak to the urban audience as well. Half Day is part of the growing current of bluegrass not only in Chicago but the Midwest. Formed in 2001 and named after an old Northern Illinois town that has been bulldozed into history, the band regularly plays venues from local pubs to Midwest bluegrass festivals with youthful energy, snappy instrumental work and tight vocal harmony. Whether performing in the traditional style of Bill Monroe or the Stanley Brothers, or in the newer urban style of Hot Rize or Seldom Scene, Half Day delivers a unique approach to bluegrass with appeal to the modern ear yet firmly grounded in the foundation laid by the old masters.
