The five finalists have been announced for the 21st annual Backyards Band Competition at Allentown Fair on Sept. 3.
They are rock/funk band the b-attitudes from the Lehigh Valley, rock and blues band Groovitude from Quakertown, teen-age rockers Fool’s Honor from Bethlehem, Hip-rock/hop/R&B outfit Halflip from Mount Pocono and young alternative Reverse Order from Hackettstown, N.J.
The groups were selected from 33 bands who created pages on radio station WZZO-FM’s Web site and uploaded songs. The choice was made by WZZO listeners voting online. Submissions were taken June 29 to Aug. 7, with voting Aug. 7-10, said Tori Thomas, WZZO’s program director/afternoons.
Thomas said more than 3,000 votes were logged.

(AllHipHop News) West Coast Hip-Hop veteran/TV star Ice-T is expanding his business portfolio with a strategic partnership with Aiko Importers and Pay Up Management to promote and distribute a new line of liquor named Original Gangster XO Brandy.
OG XO Brandy is produced in France and handcrafted in small batches, created with a blend from "exceptional vineyards" to ensure a distinctive flavor.
Representatives for Aiko Importers reached out to Ice-T's manager Mickey Bentson a year ago, who happened to be looking for an alcohol brand Ice-T could really get behind.
"Ice-T sat down with me and I told him, 'you have to see the presentation.' He loved the taste and the bottle. At the direction of Ice-T, I also told them we didn't want money, we wanted a partnership," Ice-T's manager Mickey Bentson told AllHipHop.com.
"Ice decided it would be best to have partnership in the business so we can build other brands. The bottles are great and the liquor is fantastic," added Bentson, who also owns Pay Up Records, a label that recently inked a major deal with Empire Distribution and signed artist Mr L.O.C. (Bay Area), Devon-P & TJ (UK) and Half Lip (PA).
"Coco will end up with her drink as well, and I will end up with mine. We think long term. We are building other brands within this company," Mickey Bentson told AllHipHop.com.
OG XO Brandy, which was founded in 2004 near Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is currently available in select markets in the United States, including Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.
By 2011, OG XO will be will be available in every market in the U.S., with a retail price of $22.99-$42.99.
In related Ice-T news, the superstar actor/rapper has been added to the lineup of performers during a concert celebrating the Zulu Nation's 37th anniversary in Harlem, New York at the Center for Hip-Hop Culture Center at Magic Johnson's Theater.
In addition to rappers like Ice, Sadat X, DJ Tony Touch and the Soul Sonic Force, Bentson is planning to introduce Half Lip, a new rock band on his Pay Up Records imprint.
"If you wait long enough, something big will come along and Ice-T waited," Mickey Bentson said.

The year of 2009 has been a ground breaking year for HalfLip with much accomplished and with over 100 shows being played throughout the year their fan base keeps growing bigger and bigger. Now with over 32,000 fans on MySpace HalfLip’s goal is to grow large enough to play in stadiums and arenas all around the world for each and every one of their rapidly growing fan base. The year 2009 started off by HalfLip winning the Battle of the Bands hosted by Crocodile Rock in Allentown and performed with Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil, Chimaira and others on the Music as a Weapons tour. Then a few months later Trust Company came out and played at their EP Release Party on August 14th. Their new EP "Nothing Set in Stone" was recorded at Sound Mine Recording Studios and mastered by Dan Malsch. Amongst all the shows in between the bigger ones they ended the year off by opening up for Hed (pe) and Insane Clown Posse to a sold out crowd.
The members may have all lived in different parts of PA but, growing up they all went to the same high school and at one point or another were in and out bands together. Combining all their different styles and roots of music that they all were performing separately, they came together to create what they had envisioned in their heads…and that’s “HalfLip”. HalfLip consist of six members whom have created their own unique style of music which blends various styles together raging from Hip-Hop, rock and roll, and metal.
The band has just completed their new album “Blood from a Stone”, and is continuing to work hard for their fans. With hopes of success the band is striving to make 2010 their year to remember. As they continue to pursue their musical careers the bands goal is to be recognized by the right label and have the ability to perform for their fans around the world. Together with Pay Up Records their debut album is being digitally released all over the world on September 28th 2010. Working hard every day to acheive their dreams HalfLip plans for 2011 to take them to that next step in music.
HalfLip is: Mozez Flowz (Eric Hogan) (Vocals), Steve Denig (Vocals), Dan “Vito” Barone (Vocals, Guitar), Ben Wine (Guitar), Chris “MO” Eliat (Bass) and Anthony Paesano (Drums).
They want to send a different message. So they decided to see how far the “HalfLip” project would take them and how many ears would listen to what they have to say. So listen closely……
