Bio

Halle Petro is a brooklyn based songwriter and vocalist, who executive produced and self-release her debut record, Lucky You (February 2011), eleven original tracks which mix and match an unprecedented sound of jazz and country, blues, rock, pop and soul, pulled together by Petro's powerful vocal presence.

Ms. Petro wrote lyrics and music, then further developed music and sound with collaborator and pianist Karen Dryer. With influence drawn from artists such as Otis Redding, Patty Griffin, and Stevie Nicks to name a few, it was sitting in the front seat of her Dad’s station wagon and listening to Motown as a little girl that widely shaped her music.

In addition to songwriting, Ms. Petro has appeared in theatrical recordings, regional theater, commercials and once on Saturday Night Live. Favorite roles included Annie in the world premiere of the musical The Burnt Part Boys at Barrington Stage Company, and the Drama Desk Nominated Off-Broadway production of Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen's Fugitive Songs. With her band, Ms Petro has toured New England, the Midwest, West Coast, and in November 2011 was featured as part of the Powerhouse Emerging Artist Series at Boston's famed Liberty Hotel. She has played several New York clubs such as CIty Winery and The Living Room, Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles and the famed Yoshi’s in San Francisco opening for Jill Sobule.

The LA Examiner says "Halle &The Jilt is a breath of fresh air." Cleveland NPR Radio show "Around Noon" with host Dee Perry, says the songs on the CD are "some really lovely music ... it catches the ear right from the first few notes and continues all the way through." The Boston Phoenix says "her self-released debut album ... shows an artist with a unique musical innocence and lack of snobbery, one not afraid to mix her fun, curious spirit with Broadway's trademark crispness." The NY Daily News hails her as a "group that draws from blues, folk, rock and jazz influences for a richly unique sound."
