Bio
Hal Mayfield is a folk-rock musician living in Calhoun, Louisiana. His thoughtful and emotionally honest lyrics combine personal experiences, vivid imagery, and observations of the world that are universally relevant. The music on his debut album, "Who To Believe" ranges from soft, intimate solo renditions to powerful, full-band arrangements of his songs. His roots in bluegrass and folk music blend smoothly with more recent indie influence to create an earthy, eclectic sound. The subject matter of "Who to believe" ranges from romanticizing natural beauty to dwelling on existential thoughts to falling in and out of love. All of these ideas revolve around the central theme of transitioning into adulthood as this album was completed during the summer before Mayfield's senior year of high school. A few months following the release of "Who To Believe", Hal studied guitar at Berklee College of Music during their five-week program. At Berklee, he auditioned for a songwriter showcase and was selected to perform an original song in the Berklee Performance Center with an amazing band in a lineup of nine other fantastic artists from around the world. Upon returning home to Louisiana, he immediately went back into playing shows at local venues, writing, and recording new material.
