Bio

Yes, Hammer No More The Fingers is yet another band from Chapel Hill, NC, the festering breeding ground of alternative music culture that is spewing forth the next generation of meaningful music.

The earliest iteration of Hammer No More The Fingers was Durham-based Slippery Chicken. They were 12 years old and played all original music except for a single Archers of Loaf cover. Other early influences were the Pixies, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, and They Might Be Giants. In high school, Joe Hall (guitar) and Duncan Webster (bass and vocals) headed The Droogies, an experimental outfit that garnered a strong local following.

Joe graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and spent some valuable time in Brazil soaking up musical culture, and capoeira fighting skills.

Duncan spent the last 2 years in NYC studying the music scene. His 3-piece band, Mumu Worthy, opened for Patti Smith's annual New Year's Eve stand at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. He also got a chance to play with Flea at the Hullabaloo Festival in LA. "Patti graciously took me under her wing, she's been an incredible mentor," says Duncan, "She made me believe it can happen if I pour my soul into it."

In December 2006, long time friend Jeff "Stick" Stickley came on board with his drum kit and Hammer No More The Fingers was born. Jeff is an accomplished bluegrass guitarist and with that solid discipline he lives by the credo, "play it clean, play it fast, play it loud."

"Duncan and I have been working up to this for nearly ten years," says Joe. "We write music every single day - it's what we do. The volume of songs and ideas we have is frightening."

"It's all about the melody," says Duncan, "we write catchy, edgy, slightly off kilter rock music. But we live to play in front of people. Anyone who will listen, we'll make them a believer."

Masters of space and time, Hammer No More The Fingers' sound is luxuriously full for a three piece. They're powerful and reckless, yet tasteful and refined. Searing, mellow, crunchy, they can be doing brain surgery one second and cutting down trees with chainsaws before you've had another swallow of beer.

Hammer No More The Fingers is committed to remaining light on their feet, flexible, and ready for anything. "The joy of being in a three piece with my best freinds is that we're of a single midset." says Joe, "We were done with the ego thing when we were 16. We don't need stacks of Marshalls to prove we have balls."
