I'm a 23 year old alternative/pop/soul singer/songwriter currently based in Tampa, FL. I'm a sort of combination of Muse, Paramore and Jason Mraz. I'm very passionate about communicating to my audience, it's all about them and I want to inspire people to be better in all aspects of their lives.

Biography

I'm a 23 year old singer and songwriter currently working out of Tampa, FL. I was born in New York City and from the age of 2 my mom noticed my talent and my love for singing. She guided me to find my drive and intense passion for communicating to people. She once told me, “Just do what you do in the living room and you'll be famous.” I've followed that advice my whole life by making every lyric and performance count to really say something that I believe in to my audience. I want to inspire millions of people to believe in themselves and their ability to make a difference in the world, in their friends, their families and in themselves. That is why I sing, why I write and why I live.

My style is mainly alternative/rock but also has bits of pop, soul, progressive and classical. My biggest influences are Michael Jackson and The Beatles for their level of dedication to their craft and because they realized that they had a job to do besides making great music. Musically, I've also been influenced by Muse, Justin Nozuka, Janis Joplin, Jim Sturgess, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Queen, Bon Jovi, Paramore, Jason Mraz, Three Days Grace, Angélique Kidjo and Hanz Zimmer.

I spent two years singing back up for Isaac Hayes, Edgar Winter, Kate Ceberano, Doug E. Fresh, Elena Roggero, David Pomeranz and Angelo Pagan and I've also sung with David Campbell, Chick Corea, Alberto Plaza, Tony Harnell of TNT, Mark Isham and James Barbour. I've performed in Florida, St. Louis, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, the Caribbean, Colombia, England, Suriname in South America and Mali, Swaziland and Lesotho in Africa.

I just recorded a 15 song album with a Studer 2” tape machine to Pro Tools via CLASP. It was mixed on an SSL G+ series console and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound. There are no drum samples or replacements on the album and there is no Melodyne or Auto Tune on the vocals.

Lost in L.A.

LOST IN L.A.

Sepia sun
The smog can't be undone
Lost in the haze of the games we play
Driving so fast
But this rush hour never lasts
Slam on the brakes of the games we play

Lost in L.A.
Can't find my way
Back to myself today
Lost in L.A.
Can't find the voice
Of my choice today
Lost in L.A.

Simmering sun
The mirage in the mirror won
Faking your way in the games we play
Holding so fast
But this loose grip won't ever last
Slipping away in the games we play

Lost in L.A.
Can't find my way
Back to myself today
Lost in L.A.
Can't find the voice
Of my choice today
Lost

Doctor, Doctor

DOCTOR, DOCTOR
© 2010 Hana-li Pendery.

In a world so blue
In a world so cruel
In a life so meaningless
In a life so dreamless

In a script unwritten
In a fate unbidden
In a nightmare waking
In reality breaking

Walk up to a man outstretch your hand
He looks at you like he understands
Asks what can he do and he betrays you
Lets you down cold when he turns around

Doctor, doctor, help me please
Recommend something worse than the disease
Honey, baby, love me please
While you’re out there cheating

In a world of false help
In the hand that you’ve been dealt
In a nighttime filled with fear
In the end that’s drawing near

In the city that’s a waste
In the wasteland being paved
In all of the promised dreams
In the middle of the screams

Walk up to a man outstretch your hand
He looks at you like he understands
Asks what can he do and he betrays you
Lets you down cold when he turns around

CHORUS

I used to wear a smile
But now I only feel like crying
I used to feel alive
But now I know that I am dying

CHORUS

We Took the Beatles for Granted

WE TOOK THE BEATLES FOR GRANTED
© 2010 Hana-li Pendery.

Counting the wing beats of my butterfly lashes
Time is unfelt as it slowly passes
I can't understand why everyone demands to be so underhanded

Using our freedom of speech to make us cry
Build our lives based on these lies
I can't figure out what it's all about in this roundabout kind of world

Live in the moment while the future flies by
I don't want to wake up and realize I've died
All hold hands for freedom we stand
We took the Beatles for granted

A life lived unfinished, we've crossed the line
The time is now to see all we're leaving behind
We've been here before, we've closed and locked the door but we can't hide much more

Live in the moment while the future flies by
I don't want to wake up and realize I've died
All hold hands for freedom we stand
We took the Beatles for granted
(repeat x2)
