When asked to explain"world music" James Henry has this to say: "World music is a rootsy groove that includes Drum and Bass, Funky Samba, Socca, Afro beat, Afro Cuban, Hip Hop, Funky grooves, which blends into music with elements from the rest of the world. Making its music of the soul. James has been perfecting his talent as a drummer and bass player since the age of 7. Beginning at school and church. He is master percusssion with the flare of educating others in the art of drumming and singing to world music. In addition to having performed and creating his own band handsonfire and recording with well known artist bands of his own like J2/Imani, Faith and the Village, Howland Henry, Sunsplash and his latest album 'Dragonfly'. He has also performed and recorded with artists like Pablo Cruise, Santana, Narada Michael Walden, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir as well as the Christmas album with the Harlem boys choir, Joyce Cooling, among many others. He has developed and directed an educational program which helps bring the world music together in schools.
Hands on Fire goal is to appeal to world audience. With his world experience and through his travels, James has discovered different elements of cultural music that he has applied to his own music. He travels to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Germany, Paris, Spain has influenced James ability to use the colors of music to take the listeners on a journey. James feels he has captured all these elements to create outstanding CDs of new and fresh music. His desire to share with the world the affect of drumming has on the soul and spirit ability to make people to want more. Festivals, Concerts, Private clubs and Corporations. A music veteran, James has composed TV and film scores, toured the world with Pablo Cruise, and collaborated with other great artists including Sly Stone, Pete Escovedo, Taj Mahal, Robben Ford, Buddy Miles, Rick James, and many more.
With four critically acclaimed CD's to his credit, as well as an award as Best of San Francisco World Beat Music, James continues to explore new musical genres and will soon release a new album, "Dragonfly", a creative project which showcases James' diverse concepts and talent.
