Hang The DJ brings together a culmination of catchy hooks and melodies finished with a punk rock edge. They approach their live shows with intensity and energy, and aim to provide musical performances that leave their listeners craving more.

Biography

Conceived in 2005, Hang the DJ is a three-piece indie rock band based out of Nashville, TN. Originally from Pennsylvania, the band began as a five-piece reliant on the beguiling vocal harmonies between guitarist Colin Deibler, drummer Alex Wash, and bassist Hassan Ali Estakhrian. Inspired from a wide array of talented artists from Morrissey to Rancid, the bands song formula put a unique twist on their influences and let their personal convictions do the rest.

While in Pennsylvania, their infectious melodies and catchy hooks made them a staple among indie rock artists in their area, but in a town where the prime market was overly consumed by hardcore artists, an inevitable relocation was in store.

Prior to the move, the band had garnered an excess of publicity due to their memorable live performances and their studio recordings. Their debut EP, titled It Shows, was released in late 2005 and showcased the bands exceptional knack for presenting their wealth of talent in a tasteful way.

Hang the DJs current lineup is by far the groups strongest, comprised of three of the most well-endowed, multifaceted musicians the area has seen.

Their most recent work builds upon the foundations initially set by artists like Ted Leo and is reflective of who they truly are: classically-trained musicians with an overwhelming penchant for pop brilliance.

Though many likely foresaw the band stripping down their sound as they cut members, their newest songs implement their most varied instrumentation yet, heavily layering tracks with instruments like synthesizers and even a lap steel.

Unlike most modern artists, Hang the DJ is free of pretense and has remained indisputably genuine. This atypical combination of sincerity and brilliant musicianship will be mirrored through their debut full-length which is currently in the pre-production process.

The Sun Goes Down

Written By: Alex Wash

Nixen Dimes – The Sun Goes Down

Daylight wakes my aching eyes
And drags me out of bed
I seem to move a little slower now
Conscience ringing in my head
Get to the job at 6:15
But before I leave today
I kiss my unborn son and the girl I love
I won’t be seeing them again.

Because the sun only shines when I’m workin’ honey
Could I leave and live with myself?
It’s the loneliest heart and an invitation
That I can’t give to anyone else
But my time has come, And we all die young
Without my pride or a sense of myself, I walk on.

I hung my head like an infant child
Because of the weight upon my brain
It’s cold, and I’m alone
The sun is shining anyway
A wallet photo is all I got To remind me of what I have
And in my dashboard she will spend her days
Though I’m leaving her today
I wish that she could hear me say.

The sun only shines when I’m workin’ honey
Could I leave and live with myself?
It’s the loneliest heart and an invitation
That I know I could never take back
It’s like a gun to my head as I walk from the edge
Yes I know what I’ve done is wrong
It all just shined too bright in my face
In the wake of the setting sun
But my time has come , And we all die young
Without my pride or a sense of myself
I walk on.

I've been catching you, crawling past my eye contact when
we converse in two, somethings different I can tell you

I don't know
I'm feeling a little bit slow
thinking this could go
somewhere too familiar

I don't know
where this could go
feeling a little bit slow

when I open eyes
I don't recall a time
place your hands on me
and we'll drown in lunacy

melting in my vision, your gaze cuts through all the places
you have made incisions, in my soul I've gone too far

I don't know
I'm feeling a little bit slow
thinking this could go
somewhere too familiar

I don't know
where this could go
feeling a little bit slow

when I open eyes
I don't recall a time
place your hands on me
and we'll drown in lunacy

Walls

Written By: Colin Deibler

Turn the blinds, and close the doors
Face in my head, I think it's yours
You did me wrong so long ago
I can't go on much longer, no

I fell in love last night and it's becoming a blight
with the female that I hate the most
Damn, this simple plan for a girl I cannot stand
is becoming an unhealthy dose
And if I walk away I can start over today
forever forgetting this scheme
but there's walls that say I should not be led astray
from a love manufactured in dreams

Now, I'm calling on the phone
I should have known better, you are home
You start to cry and bring me down
I don't know why I made a sound
