Feeling a bit camera shy

Hanifah Walidah first debuted as hip hop artist Sha-Key who with her 1994 LP "A Headnadda's Journey to Adidi-Skizm" left most hip hop critics scrambling for words to describe her voice and style and the rest simply devoted fans. She was pioneering artist of the NYC groundbreaking fusion of hip hop and poetry in the early and mid-nineties and then later taking her sound overseas. Compared so often to the distinct sounds of Bjork, Grace Jones and Nina Simone, she over the past 10 years has lent her voice to the mammoth funk sound of the Brooklyn Funk Essentials, recorded singles "Not Every Angel" and "Pick It Up" from French producer Alex Kid's LP's "Beinvida" and "Mint" and the title track to the latest release from German producer Mousse T and super electronica group The Crystal Method. She followed up her original 1994 release with a hip-hop opera "Adidi-The Untold Story" which featured Saul Williams,Mums the Schemer and the music of Earl Blaize and is now gearing up for the summer release of her long awaited sophomore LP "Once Upon It Is".
