Garvin's Canyon

Written By: Hans Saefkow

There’s a fire in Garvin’s canyon, I can see the smoke from here
I can almost taste the ashes, feel the first small rush of fear
And over in the corner, is a photograph of me,
with you when we were younger, you had just turned twenty-three.
And in that photgraph we’re smiling without any care at all
in the brightly coloured leaves of our first fall.

There’s a fire in Garvin’s Canyon, men are running up the road.
In the frantic call to action, water bombers come in low.
the light has changed, the sun is gone, the birds are silent too.
as if to let me know that my worst fear is coming true.
And without really thinking, I reach out to draw you near
allthough you have been gone these many years.

There’s a fire in Garvin’s Canyon, when a knock comes on the door.
in the eyes of a young man is a look I’ve seen before.
he says I’m really sorry, but there’s nothing we can do.
and in an awkward silence I can only think of you.
How you turned to me that day, asking me for something more
And the doctor turned away and closed the door.

There’s a fire in Garvin’s Canyon, now the wind begins to blow.
through the house we built together, where we watched our children grow.
and even though I lost you after oh so many years,
through trial and tribulation, I could always find you here.

There’s a fire in Garvin’s Canyon, when I finally close the door.
close it for the last time, I won’t be back here any more.
the only thing I have, is this photograph of me
with you when we were younger, you had just turned twenty-three.
