HAPPY GOAT BAND GREW FROM THE TATTERED REMNANTS OF SOUTHERN BRED WHO HAD RUN THEIR COURSE AND FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT THROUGH THE MANY LONG YEARS OF VFW'S AMERICAN LEGION'S AND SOME REALLY DANGEROUS MISSISSIPPI HONKY TONKS....HAVING DECIDED TO COME OUT FROM BEHIND THE CHICKEN-WIRE AND WITH FIRM RESOLVE SHAKING THE SAWDUST FROM THEIR BOOTS, THE LADS INTREPIDLY MADE THEIR SOON-TO-BE LEGENDARY SOJOURN TO THAT GREAT MUSICOPOLIS: NASHVILLE WHERE THEY MET THE MAN WHO WOULD CHANNEL THEIR LIVES AND MUSIC INTO HERE-TO-FORE UNCONTEMPLATED ORIGINAL DIRECTIONS.....AFTER MANY LATE NIGHT WRITING SESSIONS IN WHICH MANY FLIGHTS OF FANCY WERE INDULGED,OUR NOBLE SOUTHERN BREDS WERE SHUCKED DOWN TO THE LEAN MEAN ESSENCE WHICH IS NOW THE HAPPY GOAT BAND....THE MAN WHO WAS THE CATALYST FOR THIS CHEMICAL REACTION WAS THAT WHIMSICAL WIZARD, MR. Hammer being the grandson of Kitty Wells and Country Music pioneer Johnnie Wright understandably gets a lot of his influence from his roots. His mother along with being a performer was a staff songwriter with the likes of Roger Miller, Mel Tillis and others for Cedarwood publishing company in Nashville at the age of 17. Hammer's dad worked at Record World which gave Johnny great opportunities to listen to advance copies of all the hit records in all genres coming out at the time, and meeting these artists backstage at concerts. Also, being in the industry gave him a chance to watch the great producers of the time such as Owen Bradley. Touring at a young age he got to see the greats of Country Music, while honing his skills to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John, the Who, Steely Dan, Charlie Daniels, Sex Pistols and Gino Vanelli. So what you get is a very diverse musical base which comes out through his original music. Hard Drivin' rhythms, intricate melodies and counter melodies, with the old fashion story telling lyrics that conjures up emotions.

Happy and Goat being from Mississippi bring blues and southern rock flair of the delta. Goat is a second generation music performer with his mom, Jo Miller of the Miller Sisters, performing across the country and on the Louisiana Hay Ride. Goat's mom was also recording at Sun records at the time Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash were busting it wide open. Happy has been in several major motion pictures and when is not playing bass he enjoys being a ham in front of the camera. Both as well grew up listening to Merle Haggard and other country artists as well as have interests in the old Civil War ballads and camp songs, and also participate in Civil War reenactments. Make no mistake when these boys get on stage, they know how to get it done and please a crowd.
