Bio

“Original Americana”

Okay, only one of them actually rides a Harley. And only two of them are actually retired and divorced. But all three members of the Harley String Band have applied their second childhood to making music.

Emerging from the robust Washington DC singer-songwriter scene, the Harley String Band is deeply rooted in folk traditions, yet their songwriting is creative and expansive. Their acoustic sound is both familiar and refreshing. All three members have won multiple awards from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest.

Their new CD, Didn’t Come to Stay Long, elaborates on the “sin and misery” theme the band is known for. The haunting and ironic “Guantanamo” is a subversive volley in the culture war. “The Pride of the White Star Line” presents a classic folk telling of the sinking of the Titanic, while “Living Lives Apart” provides a weirdly upbeat take on divorce. In contrast, “Thank You for Calling PizzaCo” offers a humorous perspective on privacy rights.

The band's first CD was (Surprise!) a children's album. Subtitled “Nature songs for kids, parents, and teachers,” The Cougar of Haycock Woods celebrates outdoor learning and nature's power to inspire. Highlights include “The Snake Song” and “The Courtship of Miss Mouse.”
