"KOREAN INDIE PLAYLIST: HOLLYWOOD IS CONTROL"

Ah yes, Harry Big Button. I think of you whenever I hear someone complain about Korea not having any rock music and I send them right on over. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this band live yet, but our friend Ryan saw them and said they totally rocked. GET IT!? THEY ROCKED!! It’s a rock group and they–nevermind. Now this is their newest single off their soon to be new album, but I almost picked a different song by them which has a very special video. I didn’t choose that video because first, I wanted to support their newest single, and second, that special video made me bawl my eyes out. I don’t know why, but it was just really moving and I’ll have to introduce it to you all when I get my feels in check. Fun fact, did you know Simon can’t watch the music video for “Ageless Beauty” by the Stars without crying? He doesn’t understand why, but something about it makes him cry. Well this video did it for me. IDON’TWANNTALKABOUTITBAWWWLLL! - eatyourkimchi

"HarryBigButton : King’s Life"

Having loved their live performances, especially their great afternoon set at last years Jisan Valley Rock Festival, I was excited to hear their debut album. It was sold out in the first few places I tried, and when I finally got my hold on it, I was not disappointed. The sound of HarryBigButton is something I would describe as classic rock with a touch of early metal & a touch of alt-rock.

harrybigbutton kings life

Primarily a 3-piece, with Lee Sungsoo (lead vocals & guitar) Park Juyong (guitar) & Chung Ryoo (Bass) rounded out by a drummer, the HBB sound is familiar yet modern take on all that is good about loud rock. Boasting members previously in groups like Crash, sPoON & Art of Parties, I was surprised by how clear and crisp the album is- you can hear the effort made in the production of what is a loud & proud dirty album.

There are some big bad riffs here- look no further than “Angry Face,” “King’s Life” or “Fxxx you very Much” for great examples of the attitude and sound. Some of these songs literally slap you in the face. “Everything is Fine Except Money” is another live favorite that sounds fantastic – they have really managed to capture their energy & enthusiasm for rock!

But dig further and you find something in more meaningful than the sound first hints at. This seem like a more personal album, and the ballads, such as “A Whale in a Bowl” & “The Road” remind me of the times when rock bands had something to say rather than were just trying to sell records. These tunes so a more subtle side to HBB that nicely balances out the album. What’s also great is that most of the tracks are in English, & Lee Sungsoo even utilizes a subtle British accent, which further adds to the classic sound & emotion

King’s Life does everything a debut release should do- adds to their already awesome live sound & reputation, captures where they are, and rocks your pants off. Definitely check this one out. - koreanindie

"Reviews for January 10th, 2013"

“It is my pleasure to report that, while I liked the songs on “Hard ‘N’ Loud” (particularly “Angry Face”) I like the new songs even more. “King’s Life” is full of energetic, catchy and infectious hard rock music. My favorite part, as always, is Sungsoo’s deep thick vocals; dude has got a monster voice that is tailor-made for rocking. MetalDisciple.com fully supports Harry Big Button and their new album, “King’s Life.” Make sure to pick up a copy of this album. To get you started, here is a live version of the album’s title track, “King’s Life.”” - metaldisciple.com

Bio

A post-hard rock band named for the slang term for a cheap, vintage car stereo, HarryBigButton burst onto South Korea's burgeoning indie rock scene in late 2011 with their acclaimed, self-produced debut EP, "Hard 'n' Loud".
George Washburn of Metal Disciple described their music on that EP as "a cross between traditional hard rock/metal and 90s alternative with a twist. Whatever you call it, I think it sounds good. The guitars are heavy and kind of bluesy. The vocals are clean and deeper than I expected."

Formed in Seoul, Korea, by shaggy-haired metal/rock veteran Sungsoo Lee (vocals, guitar) who was later joined by three more experienced members, the band has seen a meteoric rise to fame in their home country over the past year, thanks to appearances at almost every major live club and music festival, as well as the nationwide broadcast of a band survival TV show.
Both local and expat audiences around Korea have been shaken up by the band's testosterone-fueled guitar sound (Gibson Les Paul Customs) and the manly confidence of Sungsoo's powerful vocals, which, coupled with the majority of his lyrics being sung in flawless English, make HarryBigButton a true rarity within the fairly young Korean indie scene.

At last, their first full-length album, entitled "King's Life" (distributed by Sony Music, produced by Sungsoo Lee and mastered by world-famous engineer Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York) was released in October 2012 and recently released their single "Control".

Now, HarryBigButton is ready to unleash K-rock upon the world!
