"Dirty Dozen"

Harry Pane is a London based folk/blues singer-songwriter. Moving to London from Northants with a soulful and emotive voice, tumbling guitar riffs, slide-guitar and a 'stomping' pulse. His songs are crafted around stories that touch close to the heart. He's just released his EP 'Changing' which he recorded in Valencia with Dani Castelar.

Tell us about yourself and what you do?

I am a singer/songwriter from Northamptonshire, now based in East London. I perform mainly folk/blues material and try to give it 100% at every show I do.

How did you start out?

I have been lucky enough to be brought up around parents that have a passion for music. My father would always be listening to Dylan, John Martyn, Christy Moore among others. He also played guitar a lot when I was a child and that inspired me to do it. I have been performing live now around 12 years but only developing my original music in the last year or so.

What is your current release/future release?

My Current release is an EP called ‘Changing’, it came out on June 10th. I successfully crowd funded for it with Pledge Music & recorded it recently in Valencia with producer Dani Castelar. It was great experience for me and a real confidence booster. I hope to release more material with Dani as he is a fantastic person to work with.

What is the best part of being a singer/song writer?

It’s definitely the fact that it is such a strong passion of mine and life is never dull!

What is your most significant moment yet?

I would say winning the #roadtothe100club with the guys from ‘Meet and Jam’. I gained a development fund from Island Records & built a relationship with PRS for Music and ended up playing on 4 stages at Glastonbury!

What are your biggest musical influences?

John Martyn has always been a huge influence of mine. As well as many more artists, including Christy Moore, Bob Dylan, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard.

My father was always a huge support and influence to me musically. That is why his picture is on the front of my new EP.

What venue/gig do you most want to play?

I would love to have the chance of performing on ‘Later with Jools Holland’. It is something I have been watching and following since I was a teenager and I have found some truly inspiring artists from that show.

What is your best/favourite song you have written?

The song that is closest to me is ‘Hazy Eyes’. It is about the history of mental health that my Father had sadly suffered from for quite a long time. I also enjoy writing songs like ‘Cold Light of Day’ from my new EP ‘Changing’, tracks like that are very enjoyable to perform live and appeal to a wide audience.

What is your favourite album of this year?

I can honestly say I haven’t found it yet.

What does the next six months have in store for you?

I am playing a fair few festivals and gigs. I am also writing a new EP to be recorded in autumn as part of my Island records development fund. I also plan to set up a UK tour.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I hope to have a collection of albums and have a nice big fat fan base who appreciate my work!

What is the best thing about Americana-UK?

That the Americana Music Association UK celebrates Americana roots music that could usually only be found on the other side of the Atlantic, bringing like-minded people together. - Americana UK

"EP Review"

Alright folks.
Today I’ve been asked to review ‘changing’ by London based singer/songwriter Harry Pane, this young man already has a good, loyal fanbase behind him, and the fact this EP was crowdfunded tells you all you need to know about how devoted his support really is. Onto the tracks then, something I noticed straight away is that this guy can seriously play the guitar, I was pleasantly surprised. I’d describe his voice as very unique and though it may not be the strongest I’ve ever heard, his vocals manage to make an impact and compliment the acoustic tones very well.
The first song of 4 is title track ‘changing’ which begins with a soft, mellow guitar tone, the vocals kick in strong, which takes you by surprise initially but ultimately all makes perfect sense, this track is solid and very easy listen to, I dig it.

Next up is ‘ghosts’ now I don’t know what it is but I’ve seen so many musicians with either a song or album/ EP titled ‘ghosts’ so can someone please explain this to me? Please. But on a serious note, the song is an excellent follow up to the title track, and gives off quite a haunting feel to it, you can definitely tell how this track is intended to make the listener feel, and is a drastic change in tone from the previous track, which is good. Diversity is key as a musician, and so far I’m getting that vibe.
Swiftly moving onto track number three with a sense of unknowingness, I’m greeted by another surprise in the form of ‘Karma’s prey’ part of me wants to take back what I said about the vocals not being the strongest, as this track is very vocal heavy, which works very well. As well as another great acoustic showing, which has become the norm for this EP, this track is another great piece of music and the sound effects that kick in every now and again make this song feel more unique.

As I pressed play on the final track it was quite bittersweet, I was looking forward to hearing what I would assume to be another great new track, but sad that this would mark the end of my first listen to a great EP, ‘cold light of day’ is the final track, and once again totally changes the tone of the album, opting for an almost country rock theme this time, the track has samples of electric guitar tones and multiple sound effects to kick it up a notch from just the traditional acoustic album that you find everywhere, Harry clearly put a lot of effort into making this EP something special and unique, it’s paid off kid, bravo.
I honestly wish I could give some constructive criticism but I’d feel out of my depth doing so, the four tracks I’ve heard are class and I’ll be looking out for any local tour dates.
Rating: 9/10. David Crouch - Reytgoodmusic

Harry Pane announces ‘Changing’ EP‏

London singer/songwriter Harry Pane has announced his new EP Changing, due for release on June 10th following a hugely successful Pledge Campaign. He has now released the title track as an instant-grat download with pre-orders of the EP on iTunes
‘Changing’ is a brooding opener of solemn hums and affirming lyricism, it haunts and ripples with a stark honesty, reminiscing about Harry’s relationship with his father.
LISTEN TO ‘CHANGING’ HERE
Elsewhere on Changing, there’s a resonating sense of Americana with the reverberating ‘Ghosts’, meanwhile the beautiful ‘Karma’s Prey’ is a worldly example Pane’s poignant songwriting, delivering an optimistic sheen to a bleak intimate moment. It’s juxtaposed with the haymaker-blues EP closer ‘Cold Light Of Day’, which completes this bold statement of intent from one of the most promising new talents on the music scene.

"EP Review"

Harry Pane is a singer-songwriter from Walthamstow, London, United Kingdom who has released his debut EP ‘Changing’ to the masses. Having secured a development fund with Island Records alongside slots at Glastonbury Festival 2016 and SXSW it is clear that Harry’s music has been opening some pretty big doors for him.

The EP was recorded at Studio Barxeta, Valencia, Spain after impressing producer Dani Castelar (Paolo Nutini, REM, Snow Patrol) and then mastered by Mandy Parnell (The XX, LCD Soundsystem, John Marytn). The opening title track has some beautifully subtle acoustic guitar that swirls around the song. His vocals remind me at times of Kelly Jones of The Stereophonics as the hooky chorus does its job of getting into your ear and not leaving. The track is lyrically very mature whilst the production is clean and not bogged down by intense electric guitar or frantic drumming. This approach helps showcase the song’s merits.

‘Ghosts’ features the sounds of waves in the sea and echo finger clicking and creates a folk Rival Sons type of vibe which helps provide the song with an overall Sons Of Anarchy soundtrack presentation. An interesting track which can potentially become a Shazam favourite with a television sync attached.

‘Karma’s Prey’ hears Harry’s voice take place at the forefront and every line is clear. For me, it isn’t the strongest track on this release but it convey the various genres e.g. Americana, acoustic, blues that have helped Harry Pane develop as an artist.

Closer ‘Cold Light Of Day’ is blues beast which starts out slow and then builds up to a bit of crisp electric slide guitar that really packs a punch with the hypnotic drums. This is my favourite track as it compliments the mellower numbers on the EP.

Clocking in at just under sixteen minutes, this four-track EP allows the listener to sit back, close their eyes and immerse themselves in the music of up-and-coming artist Harry Pane during a short period of downtime during your busy 24/7 life. - Just Listen to This
