Lyrics

Night Bird

Written By: Harry Pritchett

A year has passed since you disappeared by the sea
Are you in heaven or did you just change identities?
I trace my steps back to the waters of the sea
I feel the sand and I am crawling to my knees

I watch a night bird fly across the sea and sky
I watch her fall and rise, like a wave in the tide
I watch the night bird fly

I read a note one that you wrote it makes me laugh and cry
Out on our boat you wore my coat we watched the ships go by
I sang the blues I thought of you sinking into the blue
I search the old for something new about you

I watch a night bird fly, across the sea and sky
I watch her fall and rise, like a wave in the tide
I watch the night bird fly

I found the painting that you left for me
It showed a night bird, flying high above the sea to heaven

I never told you you’re the one who made me stand up and try
I will move on but now it’s time to say goodbye, goodbye

I watch a night bird fly across the sea and sky
I watch her fall and rise, like a wave in the tide
I watch that night bird fly
Here she comes she’s taking off
In the midnight horizon I can see her I can see
I know it’s real – I watch you falling, I watch you risin
In a flash I realize it’s gonna be all right all right
It’s gonna be all right
I watch the night bird fly away.

Wishing Moon

Written By: Harry Pritchett

There’s a light in the darkness
Shining for me and you
Most folks take her for granted
The wishing moon

Cast your eyes on her wonder
Something we both can see
I miss you so every time I go
The moon keeps us both company
Imagine that you’re here with me
And join me for a cup of tea
Underneath the wishing moon
Come join me for a while wishing I’ll be home soon

I never did have the patience
To wait for a shooting star
Wishing wells are over-rated
When we’re so far apart

Cast your eyes on her wonder, something we both can see
I miss you so every time I go the moon keeps us both company
Imagine that you’re here with me, and join me for a cup of tea
Underneath the wishing moon
Come join me for a while, wishing I’ll be home soon

It’s so easy to get lost in our own little world
When we’re so far apart
It’s nice to know I can look up in the sky
And see what you see—no matter how far

Imagine that you’re here with me
And join me for a cup of tea
Underneath the wishing moon
Come join me for a while wishing I’ll be home soon
Come join me for a while underneath the wishing moon
Underneath the wishing moon, underneath the wishing moon

Strange Journey

Written By: Harry Pritchett

Now it’s the end of the ride back to Springfield
And the smell by the railroad tracks, that takes me to the past
These tracks are still the same, but you and I have changed

I walk down Greenwood Lane, remembering summers
Skateboard extraordinaires crashing in the gravel there
These streets are still the same but you and I have changed

It’s a strange journey down the road we wander
Old abandoned cars there on the shoulder, as we travel
On this strange journey

I stop by Fletcher’s field, blackbirds singing
Leaves flying in the breeze, in this field of memories
These fields are still the same but you and I have changed

It’s a strange journey down the road we wander
All the salvage crews have left the highway as we travel
On this strange journey

You’ve got all these rose colored memories
You come back and you just got, reality
You know I hate to say it but
We’re not the same two kids we used to be
No, no, no, no, yeah

Now it’s the end of the ride, leaving Springfield
I set my bags on the platform, waitin for a train waitin to roll on
This town is still the same but you and I have changed

And it’s a strange journey
It’s a strange journey

Picking up the Pieces

Written By: Harry Pritchett

My head is aching from the night before
There’s a cold one in the ice box
I hear the boor bell, Mary’s left Rebecca
On the doorstep in her wet socks

Mary wrote down a note said “I can’t do this anymore”
Now she’s gone just like the weather
Becky’s dropped her teddy bear
It’s blown across the yard out there
I’ll pick it up and make it better

Cause here I am, once again,
I am the king of picking up the pieces,
Pieces fallen all around
Here I am once again as I struggle to pick up the pieces
When they’re still falling down
Falling down, falling down, falling

One day, I’ll make it, pick up all the pieces
Build a good life, in a safe place
For now I’ll take it one piece at a time
Lay down my worries and have some faith

Cause I’ve been down before and it’s not getting any easier
When it’s always one thing or another
Who will save her? Who will save me? Looks like we’ll have to save each other.

Cause here I am, once again, I am the king of picking up the pieces,
Pieces fallen all around
Here I am once again as I struggle to pick up the pieces
When they’re still falling down
Falling down, falling down, falling

So I stand up my courage
And I won’t get discouraged
If we make it through the morning we can make it through the day
Through the day

Cause here I am, once again, I am the king of picking up the pieces,
Pieces fallen all around
Here I am once again as I struggle to pick up the pieces
When they’re still falling down
Falling down, falling down, falling

A Matter of Time

Written By: Harry Pritchett

I can’t believe December’s nearly here
I’ve no idea what happened to the year
Watchin’ as the sunset disappears
Another day is gone, we’re still here

It’s a matter of time…we say it all the time
We wrote down on our New Year’s list
To save a little time
We’ve been falling behind, chasing those deadlines
When will we take that moonlight drive?
Jump in the river at midnight?
Everything is fine. It’s just a matter of time.

Remember when we drove to Santa Fe?
The wind blew warmer every day
In a house of red adobe near the vines
We stayed up all night long, eating breadsticks
Til we ran out of wine

It was a wonderful time, yours and mine
We turned off the phones, and tried on a hat
Started walkin with no clear path
Til we climbed the mountain side
Went out for a moonlight drive
Fell in the river we were so alive
Everything was fine. It was a matter of time, sweet time.

You left your scarf out in the rain
We had another drink and then
We went outside again until the morning came

Now it’s a matter of time, we say it all the time
We wrote down on our New Year’s list to save a little time
We’ve been letting it slide, our hands are tied
When will we take that moonlight drive or jump in the river to feel alive?
Everything is fine. It’s just a matter of time. Sweet time. Sweet time. Wont’ you keep on rolling. It’s like a river flowin never slowin down it keeps on going, a matter of time, yours and mine.
