Biography

" Gothic Folk Rock" ,"18th century rake rock" and "Lord Byron rock" are monikers used to describe the unlikely musical blend and lyrics of Haunted Summer. Beautiful, haunting pop songs mixed with folk rock and some gothic imagery that make for some seriously catchy hooks.
Raised in Europe and leaning heavily on British hard rock influences and American folk songwriters Dan Lavorel fashioned his sound out of that dichotomy and give him his unique approach to songwriting.
Returning to the U.S in the 90's, Dan would found the Gothic rock outfit "Masque" and pay some serious dues in the bars and clubs from Texas to California. Releasing 2 independent albums, Masque would see a series of lineups before eventually folding in 2003. During their run they would experience some near euphoric evenings and help to earn themselves the epithet of the "Deserts undisputed kings of gothic rock", playing with such acts as Cleopatra Records "The Wake" and RCA Records "The Strawberry Zots". Finally relocating to the Bay area in 2001 the band disbanded due to internal friction in 2003.
Being the front man, singer, and songwriter for the group, Dan continued  making solo music in various lineups and outfits before teaming up with Gail Rorick in the 2010's to do various studio recordings. Gail Rorick who some years before was the lead violinist for the Bay area band "Phils Harmonic Orchestra rounds out the sound giving Haunted Summer a unique vibe. Settling on the name and working with various percussionists and drummers in 2017 the duo is recording a self titled full length album due out by the end of the year.

Lyrics

Marquis de Sade

Written By: Dan Lavorel

They tell you of love and of politesse, dress you in lace like a little princesse
All the right moves and a flattering praise, and what to look for, you’d be
amazed
The things they taught you left your dreams a mess
You’d settle easy for something less
Kill the prince and the apples gone bad, the only one who’s left is the
Marquis de Sade.

Lock me up in your little world, feed me some garbage let your flag unfurl
Tell me what’s right then tell me what’s wrong then jump right in and do it
all night long.
The things they taught you left your dreams a mess.
You’d settle easy for something less
Kill the prince and the apples gone bad, the only one who’s left is the
Marquis de Sade.

Your endless complaining is quite a charade
cause your still dancing in the masquerade
You can’t keep it simple, and that’s too bad
You want it so desperately but all you’ll ever have is the
Marquis de Sade
