"Review: Have You Heard's Take.Create.Revive."

Residing in Nashville, TN, the pop-punk band Have You Heard has been busy releasing their sophomore EP, take.create.revive. Venturing further from their debut Where You Want Me, Have You Heard explores the vast universe that is pop-punk, and the results do not disappoint.

Including four tracks, take.create.revive. draws you in with “374” and does not let go. With familiar elements of old Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday, each individual song has its own charm. “Eleven’s” gang vocals and capturing chorus is a staple on the EP and is sure to become quite a crowd favorite. “Burned Away” exhibits Jeff Moore’s emotional vocal range to its extent and while the last track – holding the same name as the EP – “take.create.revive.”, embraces the whole theme of the EP with the beautiful gang vocals singing “take, create, revive, breathe the breath of life. Take what is broken and bring it to life.”

Have You Heard’s surprisingly solid sound has made an impact in the genre that is pop-punk and I can only see their future as a band progressing. Even offering up their latest release for free download, it’s only a matter of time before you can spot them on national tours.

Bio

“If you haven’t heard, you absolutely need to,” according to a reviewer of “Where You Want Me,” the 2010 release from Have You Heard, a multicultural band based in Nashville, TN. This EP brought the group national attention. Playing for audiences from the Southeast to the Midwest has garnered the band positive reviews and a growing following. Founding band members, vocalist Jeff Moore and guitarist Matt Jaikaran, had a strong musical direction and knew the sound they wanted to achieve when they joined forces to create Have You Heard.

Their first EP “We Do This By Ourselves,” released in 2008, generated a buzz around the Southeast for this band. Refining their mature, pop rock sound, which draws on the influence of music from bands like Dashboard Confessional, Tokyo Police Club, Paramore, and The Starting Line, meant finding the right combination of musicians for their next project. Sol Philcox, the internationally known guitarist moved from Norwich, England to Nashville and joined Jeff and Matt. Drummer Alex Jackson, a transplant from Texas, was the next piece of the musical puzzle in creating the Have You Heard sound. And when the group met bassist Deeyon Kamtarin, another English import from South London, they knew the band was complete. Encouraged by the positive response to “Where You Want Me,” the band started writing songs for their next album. Philcox explains, “When we were writing ‘Where You Want Me,’ it was just me, Jeff, and Matt. Alex learned the songs in the studio. Now that we’ve solidified our lineup, we feel like this group of guys can write an even stronger record.”

Building on their previous success, Have You Heard release their 4-song EP “take.create.revive” in August 2011. The EP has served as a transition for the band’s change in writing. Moore says, “We felt like we wanted our sound in a different direction. We didn’t have a particular sound we were shooting for but we wanted to strive for something unique.” The band has already started writing for a follow-up to ‘take.create.revive” and taking this new direction into the studio once again. “We are continuing to push the limits and breaking expectations of ‘what we sound like.’ There isn’t a specific genre we are trying to fit into, just music that we are passionate about and can be proud to share with fans.”
