All-original female-fronted rock and roll that defies stereotypes or classification. Honest, emotional lyrics speak to the feminine psyche over a classic rock inspired guitar-driven backbone.

Biography

We are Hazel Strange, a female fronted, original rock band located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We play all original, emotionally charged, edgy rock and roll with raw, honest lyrics of personal turmoil, inner struggles, relationships, and failure. Due to our love of A Minor, the saddest of all chords, we don't really like to write happy songs. Our influences are many, and also none. We listen to a wide variety of music, but don't try to emulate any of it. Everything is purely original (at least we think it is). We've been told we don't sound like anything else out there. Our musical idols include such artists as Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Soundgarden, CCR, and Joni Mitchell.
Hazel Strange began life as The Westgoing Zax, an acoustic trio that played several shows around Southern California throughout winter and spring of 2005. As the band moved toward electrification, the new name was decided on, new songs were written, and a plan was made to relocate the band to Minneapolis. Just prior to relocation, founding member, Greg DeFuria, decided to leave the project to form his own band in San Diego. In June 2006, drummer Sean "Woodstock" Lange joined the lineup and Hazel Strange officially came to exist. Hazel Strange played it's debut show in Chris and Jamie Holm's hometown of Clearbrook, Minnesota in mid-July. In August, guitar player James Gould, also of The Early Effect, and keyboard player Melissa Lindemann joined the band to fill out the lineup. Recently, Woodstock was replaced by Drew Finseth on drums. Hazel Strange has played several shows around Minneapolis/St. Paul in such venues as The Uptown Bar & Cafe, The 400 Bar, Station 4, and Christensen's Big V.

Hazel Strange's debut album, "Poor Little Girls" was released on December 15th, 2006. The official CD release party will be on January 13th, 2007 at The 400 Bar in Minneapolis. Come check us out. We look forward to seeing all of you out at our shows and hope you are ready to come along for the ride. We promise to put on a good show.

Toothbrushes

Written By: Jamie Holm, Chris Holm

Toothbrushes
At two or three or more different houses
Makes me believe the gods who warned me
I'd be bad with commitment

And one more time I will run

I claw away at the surface
Searching for something below us
Hands blood red, I'm feeling obscene
Give me a week to remember
All the hearts that I put in the blender
Look me over, put me under, I'm feeling obscene

I walk through fire
As I burn the bridges down
Ten men, why do they line up again?
They've seen me changing the bed sheets

And one more time I will run

I claw away at the surface
Searching for something below us
Hands blood red, I'm feeling obscene
Give me a week to remember
All the hearts that I put in the blender
Look me over, put me under, I'm feeling obscene

And one more time I will run

I claw away at the surface
Searching for something below us
Hands blood red, I'm feeling obscene
Give me a week to remember
All the hearts that I put in the blender
Look me over, put me under, I'm feeling obscene

Look me over
Look me over
Put me under
I'm feeling obscene

Look me over
Look me over
Put me under
I'm feeling obscene

Rely

Written By: Jamie Holm, Chris Holm

I was not your world
I was a little girl that you were wasting your life on
And if you’re afraid
Just know that I’m the same and I am under the big gun, (now)

Now that it’s over (now)
Now that I’ve lost you (now)
Now that I’m lonely

I relied on you
Did you rely on me for anything?
Please say,
Please say

When the sun’s away
All the clouds can play
And they are dancing around me
It’s raining now and I have found myself
Missing Minnesota (now)

Now that it’s over (now)
Now that I’ve lost you (now)
Now that I’m lonely

I relied on you
Did you rely on me for anything?
Please say,
Please say

I relied on you
Did you rely on me for anything?
Please say,
Please say

Forever Lonely

Written By: Chris Holm

Simple times are not so easy
Too much time to spend
Dreaming of a face
A thousand miles away and I'm already
Holding on too tight
To a rope that isn't there
Reaching out my hand as you slowly
Drift from my shore, and

You and I we've been forever lonely and I miss you
Brought together for a moment and it's over and I miss you
In a dream, two worlds will come together, but dreams really don't come true
You and I we've been forever lonely and I miss you

Once, I felt your velvet fingers
Gentle on my skin
Pulling me in closer
To a place I'd never been and then we're gone
Off our seperate ways
Off to chase the wind
No time to watch the sunrise together
Or we'll lose our place in line, but

You and I we've been forever lonely and I miss you
Brought together for a moment and it's over and I miss you
In a dream, two worlds will come together, but dreams really don't come true
You and I we've been forever lonely and I miss you

Too many nights spent on the phone
Calling me back home
You try and keep me near
But you're with somebody new and bridges burn
Too much left to chance
Has blown up in your face
Left you with not enough answers
To too many questions, and

You and I we've been forever lonely and I miss you
Brought together for a moment and it's over and I miss you
In a dream, our worlds would come together, but dreams really don't come true
You and I we've been forever lonely and I miss you
