"AltPress"

"The song (No Visitors from Heavy Fruit) takes the band’s brand of fire-roasted metalcore and Ping-Pongs it between speedy, heads-down, mosh pit-ready aggression and massive, melodic spaciousness that, in a just world, would be a staple of classic rock playlists come the year 2046." -

"Revolver"

"Overall, ‘Heavy Fruit’ is a impressively consistent record that fans of heavy music should absolutely check out." (4.5/5 Stars) -

"New Noise Magazine"

"It only takes one listen to be fully seduced by whatever witchy thing He Is Legend has brewing." (4.5/5 Stars) -

"The PRP"

"Its depth requires the listener to substantially invest themselves, but it shouldn’t take more than a few listens until the hooks covertly take hold." -

"MetalSucks"

"If MetalSucks were able to cover only ten bands, we'd wage war to ensure that He Is Legend is one of them. HIL is both elemental and innovative, simultaneously familiar and singular, simple and sophisticated." -

"Lambgoat"

"A deft blend of heaviness, catchiness, and fervor, Heavy Fruit will prove to be worth the wait for fans of He Is Legend." -

"Heavy Blog is Heavy"

"Heavy Fruit is an addicting listen, and only gets better with each subsequent press of the play button." (4.5/5 Stars) -

"Disinformation"

"Their style of rock weighs with whiskey, cigarettes, and magick overtones." -

Bio

“Impulsive” is a word that comes to mind when thinking about the music of Wilmington, NC band He Is Legend. With a sound best described as rock and roll, the swampy group of bearded gentlemen refuses to be pigeon holed into one subgenre. You can hear the influence of bands like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins, despite He Is Legend’s faster and more aggressive writing style. Often writing tunes that keep even the most diehard fan guessing as to what might come next. However, even with all their diversity, there is a stamp on every song that says “this is He Is Legend.”

The name He Is Legend is an adaptation of the 1954 book I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. After independently releasing their first EP in June 2004 entitled 91025, they released the full length albums I Am Hollywood and Suck out the Poison on Solid State Records. The band followed the releases up by extensive touring in the United States and Europe with acts like Norma Jean, Atreyu, Chimaira, Dragonforce, and Killswitch Engage.

He Is Legend signed to Tragic Hero Records in 2009 to release It Hates You, an album that has garnered a cult like following. Shortly thereafter, the group decided to take a break. “Having the time off and being home and seeing a different side of life, it offers a great perspective,” says vocalist Schuylar Croom. “When you’re in a different city every night for 8-10 years and then you get to be home for two years it’s kind of a culture shock.” After a five year hiatus, they recruited drummer Sam Huff and had a new spark musically. They felt the time was right to record the long awaited fourth album Heavy Fruit with producer and ex-band member Mitch Marlow (Filter). “We have a lot of history with Mitch, him having been in our band at one point, and we know that with him we are going to get the kind of awesome fart sounds that we want on a new record and we will be completely at ease and comfortable,” says Croom. The record debuted on 8/19 at number one on the iTunes Metal chart and number three on the Rock chart.
