Bio

Heads of State was formed by accident as a booked gig with no line-up and no rehearsed material. Out of that heavily exploratory evening, Heads of State emerged as John Johnson and Matt Cline. Completely inspired by the Bush Regime and lame politics in general, the Constitution, the mediocrity of the suburbs, screamingly clear guitar tone seeking, melodic chord progressions, social commentary, self-production, minimally calculated pragmatism, and the discipline to become better, Heads of State is not just another "serious band." We're serious about the notes and quality...everything else is questionable. We are here to rock out, have fun, do business, and ultimately grow as musicians. If you dig it too...we'll come play!

Heads of State's influences are really too many to retain anyone's attention. A few include: Miles Davis, Zappa, Herbie Hancock, Flaming Lips, Zeppelin, Tony Williams, Weather Report (Jaco), Mars Volta, The Beatles, The Bad Plus, any 70's R&B, etcetera.

Heads of State has played a variety of shows with contrapuntally styled bands and has even opened for Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle in Kansas City.

What sets Heads of State apart from other bands that are trying to do what we're doing...which is be heard...is discipline, respect, realism, educated in a business world, unpopular chord progressions, a quest for overall sonic tone, and ultimately having a goal. All of these things are either fact or based on observation.

Other than that, we just want to play and say what's on our minds. Enjoy!
