Bio

Heart and Lungs was formed in 2006 by founding members Joseph O’Neil (Manchineel) on guitars, John Crocco (Sparks Fly from a Kiss) on drums and Brian Onken (Inspector 7, Black Belts) playing bass and singing. Heart and Lungs’ music had a mellower artist feel to it and after hitting the club scene for a bit they enlisted the help of Jennifer Barquero as a lead female vocalist. In 2007 Joseph, left Heart and Lungs under amicable circumstances and the band took a break and regrouped.
In Early 2008 Peter Ballou (Fish Stampede) joined the group as guitar player, followed by Rob Aiosa, who took over on bass. At this time Heart and Lungs transformed into the more energetic guitar driven Rock sound you hear today. Although it’s sentimental roots can be still be heard in the slower more romantic songs.

The current Heart and Lungs line up, Jennifer: Lead Vocals, John: Drums, Brian: Guitar and Vocals, Peter: Guitar, Rob: Bass, have been performing in and around the New York/ New Jersey area. Making a name for themselves in the local club scene, playing shows in Brooklyn and Jersey City and following in the footsteps of The Smithereens, Lifetime, and The Gaslight Anthem, Heart and Lungs are a frequent act at the landmark Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ. As well as the Jersey Shore’s Wonderbar and Asbury Lanes. Who have seen acts the likes of Link Wray, Mick Jones of the Clash and 80’s rockers Agent Orange.

Heart and Lungs were hand selected to be finalists in SPIN magazine’s Major League Baseball MLB2K contest with their song Eight Stone.

At the end of 2008 Heart and Lungs released a 5 song EP entitled ‘Pentapus’ and a few singles in 2009 and early 2010. Heart and Lungs is currently writing and preparing music for a full length release.

Drawing on influences from New Order to Muse to the Pretenders to The Kinks, Heart and Lungs’ unique sound and energetic live performances make them and exciting act to behold.
