"Hearts in Pencil - A Place Called Pandemonium"

Promising Good Shoes style indie pop from Oxfordshire teenagers.

It’s a bit Art Brut, it’s a bit Buzzcocks. It’s all good. 3 late teens from Witney in Oxfordshire have recorded a cracking indie pop demo, with some refreshing attention to lyrical detail. - Artrocker

"Heart in Pencil"

With song titles like ‘A Place called
Pandemonium’, ‘Ghosts Of The
Conquistadors’ and ‘Hadron Collider Blues’, this bunch of Witney youngsters really should
be a full-on prog-metal death noise machine. Instead they far too chipper for such heavyweight subject matter, coming on more like exiles from last year’s Thamesbeat scene (you know – Chris T-T and assorted cockernee storytellers), mixing an almost folky element into their energetic indie punk noise. They up the ante as their demo progresses, from the bolshy Rolling Stones-style swagger of ‘Hadron Collider Blues’ to the gruff, muscular determination of ‘Ghosts…’

Bio

Hearts in Pencil... we are 4 late teens from Oxfordshire who formed through friendships and a mutual interest in Pop music (in it's original meaning) and have a similar distaste for the modern day "indie" music scene, which doesn't seem to rekindle the artistic and creative side that the original idea of indie was defined. Instead, we draw inspiration from revolutionary bands, such as the Smiths, the Velvet Underground, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd and Joy Division, but also lyrically through literature and history. For instance, our song 'Hannibal ad Portas' takes Carthage's heroic commander and compares his struggle for power with the Roman Empire to modern day society's flaws. Feedback towards 'Hannibal...' has been excellent, and a local Oxfordshire promoter who runs the Coo Coo Club at the Jericho Tavern said "Totally blown away by your new track, the more I hear it the more i want to listen to it again... MORE! MORE!", before we were offered a gig with her. We've learnt so much whilst gigging and have tried to push ourselves to play better and constantly write new exciting songs. We recently played the Oxford O2 Academy, although it was quite nerve-racking, it was a fantastic experience and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Soon after, we were asked to play again, but as main support.

We hope you like the music :)
