Heather Blush and Triple S

Heathers songwriting and vocals are most often compared to Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, and Maria Muldaur, but her style is truly unique. Her songs are difficult to categorize, but are most often described as jazz, folk, and R&B-influenced. With song subjects ranging from baseball to synesthesia, listeners are left guessing what will come out of her mouth next. Her eclectic style is not surprising when you consider her background as a classically-trained pianist, folk guitarist, and jazz vocalist.

Heathers debut CD, first blush, released in March 2005, was recorded with Juno award-winning producer Dan Donahue (Valdy, Connie Kaldor) of Winnipeg. It has been receiving radio play on CBC, as well as independent and university radio stations across Canada, and as far away as Portugal, Spain, and Serbia.

While Heather is capable of mesmerizing a crowd in a solo performance, her band of swashbucklers adds a new level. The members of Triple S Captain Steve Hazlett on percussion, Shotgun Stu Davies on lead guitar, and Cannonball Shane Sutherland on bass, each add their own special ingredient to the live show, which combine to produce some tasty grooves. The obvious camaraderie among band members, coupled with their interactive and energetic shows, has captured the attention of many.

Together, the band filmed a music video for Bandage, with director Doug Cook, in the summer of 2006. A new full-length CD is in the planning stages, and should be released by the fall of 2007.
While the bands sound is difficult to describe, one thing is for sure: ink on paper or dots on a screen will not do them justice. Heather Blush and her band of swashbucklers must be seen and heard to be appreciated fully.
