HEATHER FRAHN TRIO : BIOGRAPHY

CONSCIOUS FUNKY ROOTS MUSIC

Multi award winning artist Heather Frahn owns one of Australia's finest voices. She has performed professionally since the mid 1990's starting at the age of just 14. Over this time has toured nationally and internationally.

Heather fuels her music with a vibrant young woman's passion and delivers with a deep, dynamic voice that is undeniably her own. Musically she draws on blues, funk, roots and folk creating her own earthy sound that resonates with any audience. Heather's lyrics reflect humanity and life. Her conscious and personal lyrics express lessons learned and explore questions asked about humanitarian, philosophical, social, spiritual & political issues. It’s easy to see why Heather has been compared to the likes of Michael Franti, Tracy Chapman, Bob Dylan and India Arie.

At only 28 years of age Heather has achieved so much through her music, supporting the likes of John Butler, Luka Bloom and Renee Geyer and performing at many festivals and showcases. She has received 5 South Australian Music Industry Awards since 2000, and was awarded the 2006 Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year Award.

Heather has been sponsored by Salvi’s Fine Guitars with a custom made 8 string hybrid baritone, guitar-bass also playable as a lap-slide guitar. She also performs with Irish bouzouki, stomp box and foot percussion.

Joining Heather on stage to form the Heather Frahn Trio are two outstanding musicians, Ryan Maguire, a harmonica virtuoso, and Daniel Seymour a dynamic and funky drummer/percussionist. Ryan has spent the last decade developing his own distinct style of playing and attributes much of his inspiration to other great harmonica players, most notably Stevie Wonder. Ryan’s sound can largely be accredited to his ‘single-note’ playing technique, which is a departure from the common blues harmonica style. His playing is joyful and emotive and yet raw and adventurous, truly a sight not to be missed.

Daniel Seymour has been drumming and performing from a young age. He started playing in a marching drum corps at the age of 7 and moved on to drumkit and other percussion as he reached high school. He toured frequently with his school ensemble, playing at the Sydney Opera House and also completing a tour of Japan. He has accompanied Jazz legend Don Burrows and performed with other notable greats including The Borderers, Mark Ferguson and LaRusso, whilst also accruing twelve SA State titles, three Vic State Titles and one National Title through his pipe band drumming. Daniel’s playing is technical yet musical and each performance is a display of his pure enjoyment for performing music.

Together these musicians are a team who present an entertaining, thoughtful and energetic live show. Having received the only standing ovation at the Australian Blues Music Festival in February 2007, having been formed for only three weeks, the Heather Frahn Trio are fast becoming one of Australia’s sought after live roots music acts!

The Trio’s new CD titled ‘synergy’ was recorded in August 2007 and was produced by David Briggs (Little River Band). It consists of five tracks that capture the Trio’s unique powerhouse, funky, roots sound which has been loved by Australian radio including national airplay on Triple J's "Roots & All" program, and Nova FM's "Homebrew" program.

Heather’s solo album “We Are One” from 2006, was produced by Richard Pleasance (Kate Ceberano/Jimmy Little/Deborah Conway) and featured as album of the week on community radio stations and has received critical acclaim from the tough critics.
